Extortionists of a gringo busted in Parque Itagui

http://www.elcolombiano.com/BancoConocimiento/E/extorsionaban_a_un_gri...

Just hope they acted alone and do not have others that may go after the gringo and/or his family someday for revenge. But seems like they were part of La Union gang. I wonder what business he had as 2.5 millones is a very high vacuna. For a small business it is usually 50 to 200 mil a month. So either it was a bigger business or if not, even in extortion he was paying the gringo tax!

In Colombia, most natives assume all gringos have much more money than he/she actually has!

Ha, anywhere outside of NA or Western Europe they think that. If they only knew.

I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

What is more frustrating is even "sophisticated" residents of Colombia believe the US Government has a giant reservoir of money. Furthermore, we should be more generous and share this vast wealth with the rest of the world who are less fortunate.

Amazing the reaction when I inform them the US Government has zero funds. Moneys spent by the US government represent confiscated (via taxes) income earned by the American people! Through the concept of fiat currency the US government continues to print money leaving a trail of debt as long as the eye can see for our children.

The story is confusing. It refers to a comerciante norteamericano. So, the guy was Canadian, Mexican, or American?

"worried about retribution by other gang members against the American and his, probably Colombian wife and baby, and her extended family."

One of the main reasons for not burning the bridges behind you upon your move to Colombia. Always leave a means for quick return! An escape hatch if you prefer the vernacular.

I have to disagree to some comments in this post. Not All Colombian think you are rich, but if you put it in context, for Colombian standard living, well you are!. I haven't read the story, I will do it later, but please don't make us look like we are greedy people!! Because I can tell you, those "sophisticated" people some of you mentioned are the minority and there are a lot of Colombians with a better understanding about how exactly USA government has its "giant reservoir of money".

Colombian`s would very seldom report such crimes for fear of retribution. Well done to this guy, two less scumbags on the street.

Yes but will not do him or his family any good upon retribution! Aztec hit the nail on the head, but a bit difficult to remove the whole family if needed.
