I tried to get in before (and upon) arrival quite some time ago...even with internal references...however they seemed very interested in getting me to commit to taking Spanish classes before they would offer me a job. So, do the math: $$$ Income (-) $$ Spanish class costs = No money to live.

I have heard of similiar experiences, at the same time others may have had better success there. I got tired of the run-around and a few smart moves later landed a great long-term gig here. Look around, EAFIT isn't the only "reputable" place to go.

The "lovemedellin website" is a piece of crap made by some moron who has only been to Medellin once...you'd be better off reading the Lonely Planet advice from a guy who never even came here!
