Exchange Rates

Going to Cartagena...Where is the best place to exchange money? Here in the US at a bank or is there someplace in Cartagena with a better exchange rate? Thank you.

Or at the airport in Bogota, at the exchange window near the customs-exit; whatever you do, do not exchange w/street currency-traders in Cartagena, who will acost you if the find out you have green backs, offer you a premium, then rip you off.

Yes, it's called an ATM. You will never be able to beat the rate you get from the ATM.

Don't do it anywhere but an ATM. You can also go into a bank and ask to charge to your credit card for cash. You will get the published exchange rate from your credit card company and may get charged a few dollars for the transaction. ONLY WAYS TO GO!!!

Airport may give you 1800/1 when the real exchange rate is roughly 2000/1.

For all means don't do it in bar.

Another option would be to exchange at Decamaron Hotel. Any taxi driver knows Decameron so that is not a big deal. Even if you’re not a guest...just walk in and it is on the right at the front desk. The exchange rate is not that great however it is better then the black market rate. As everyone else states ATM is the best option.

You will get a shit exchange rate. 1800/1 compared to 2000/1 (assuming that is the going rate at the time)
