i have a friend in bogota, he was an exchange program in the us (virginia) and we when on to become in a relationship that was crushed by his departure. i had thought about doing an exchange program before i met him (possibly spain/frnace/germany) but as soon as he left i began to look at exchange programs in bogota...only yo find that there are none. i assume (asss of you and me i know) this is because of quote unquote safty issues ...personally that i believe have been blown out of proportion. does any one have any advice on finding a homestay program for a high school student....and then i have heard that public schools are not offered in respectable areas and if there were ..the schools are awful......i have been recommended to colligo(sp?) de san bartolana. (my friend wen there) if any one has any suggestions on homestays or schools please leave input!!!

You would have to contact them directly for as I would imagine they do not waste their time on internet, as unfortunatelly Colombia not only has a bad reputation, but many Colombian sites have the traditional know it all gringo who spends all day in the web bashing anything Colombian.

Diez Y Siete says on Oct 2, 2005, 20:46: Are there any american approved colleges? I would like to study to be a doctor but it isnt an option if i stay in the united states because my only choice is student loans and with atleast 8 years of school at a minimum of 30k a year, i would be paying my loans off till i died. I have heard that school in colombia cut out the 4 years of general study and you jsut do 5 years of college for what you would like to be, at a much lower cost. my boyfriend attends javeriana(in bogota) and only pays 2k a semester. I just want to go to a college out of the country and live there for maybe a few years and not have to go through college all over again when i come back
