BOGOTA, Colombia — Former Sen. Luis Eladio Perez, once a hostage in the jungle with the three Americans and Ingrid Betancourt, flew to the U.S. on Wednesday after death threats made it clear that remaining in Colombia imperiled his life.
Perez, a close ally of Betancourt who was freed by the rebels in February, thinks that the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, issued the threats after a Colombian general implied that Perez had provided intelligence information to authorities who were planning last week's dramatic rescue. Perez said he had played no role.

But he got a call saying "be careful about what you say sonof**" when he was going to declare against the farc commanders who were arrested in the rescue. Then he got a call saying "you will regret" after declaring all he knew against them. Now he is in Miami with his wife.
