Everything about Pereira (capital of gorgeous girls)

Pereira is well-known worldwide for its spectacularly beautiful women. Oh, yeah! There's no city in Colombia or Latinamerica like this to get to know the dream latin girl (or boy!). But, what makes Pereira so special, mesmerizing and unique? Why when you are here you just feel like there's love/sex in the air? Where does such charm comes from that makes you feel like you don't want to leave? Ok, let's find out, shall we? (Both English and Spanish are welcome) ;-)

You're right about the beauty of the 'pereiranas', I think the people of Pereira are charming in general. I love the warmth of the city and its people. Pereira, cuánto te extraño!!

nacho paid them that's why! people it's not hard to find "pay for play" girls anywhere, you can't say pereira is full of loose women that is not true, but there are plenty of super friendly girls there, and everywhere...

my first night in medellin for example i had a girl give me her number on the street while i was busy talking on my cellphone and she stayed that nite with me, i didn't know her from a bar of soap she just gave me the number because she heard my accent in spanish and liked gringos...cost me 3,000 pesos for breakfast though! so does that mean all medellin girls are like that...UtopiaCowboy will tell u NO they aren't!

yeah it rains quite a bit there, used to piss me off cause i never owned an umbrella, hate carrying them

can't say pereira is full of history or spectacular architectura, it's young by colombian standards only about 140 yrs.

but nearby you have santa rosa de cabal, great little place, plus you are in the middle of the coffee region, not far either from armenia or manizales.

Colombiano X Only you could take exception to the post I have made.
I'll spare you from a full blown rant and rave but I have a point or two to clear up.
Firstly....bro.....ask any Colombian south of Monteria what the women of Pereira are referred to....my last doobie says that the majority will say the word "zorda"...why?
Well why do you think that Colombians are referred to as Narcos? and why do you think that English football fans are referred to as hooligans?...are you following me?
I also take exception to the word jerk (too american)...i don't mind if you call me a dickhead or shit-for-brains (shit..a good ol marica hijueputa would have done the trick) but please do not insult me with this jerk word.
I do not come here disrespecting Colombian women....but if you feel like holding me personally responsible for the well established fact that Pereiranas are known as zordas then feel free....oh by the way i think I should let you know that it was a Pereirana that first let me in on this whole zorda thing...perhaps you would like her e-mail address so you could write her a thesis on why she shouldn't be referring to herself as a "zorda"

P.S. Lighten up bro

Oh no? You basically described them (pereiranas) as whores and what bothers me is that you (a colombian, I assume) is spreading such disparaging stereotypes about the good women of Pereira to the english-speaking world! We colombians are always complaining about the negative stereotypes that others have of us, and here we have you doing it to other colombians.

quindioman says on Jun 26, 2005, 16:50:

boo hoo jejejejejeje
listen diaverde....firstly we are talking about Colombia NOT Spain.
Let me explain this a bit more to you...yeah right FYI...you telling me that when i incorrectly spelt sorda (as correctly spotted by you) you concluded and ASSumed that i was going to pronounce zorda like them spaniards do and say something along the lines of THOR-DA...well...talk about jumping the gun and getting your knickers in a twist...it seems elementary my dear greenday that in your desperate attempt to show me up (and give a bit of support to your good buddy and future Pereira co-tourer) you seem to think we are in Zaragoza Spain and not Zarzal Colombia (jejeje i liked that one)....see where I grew up (or is it my friend that wrote that sentence for me?) we say zona cafetera and if you spelt zona cafetera with an s we would pronounce the thing the same way....z/sona cafetera...If i were Spanish...well then you would be 100% right, but as it happens me (or my friend...whichever you prefer) happens to be Colombian and specifically from Armenia (which coincidentally is roughly 45 minutes south of Pereira...or 20 minutes if you got a m/bike, a raging coke habit and scant regard for one's life)....

You got me on the spelling though i truly have no clue...it ain't my fault i was dropped on a plane with a tag to london when i was 9 years old and quickly adapted to the British way of life....perhaps you find it inconceivable that a Colombian citizen with a background that he claims to have can find himself more at ease expressing himself in English rather than Spanish...this guy has to be a fake...a fraud according to you mr. greenday...he claims to be Colombian but can't even spell sorda....perhaps we can put that on a how colombian are you test...yeah...let's see...get them to spell sorda and see how many colombians do it with a z(y el man tiene razon por eso casi nunca le escribo a mi novia en Cali, lo unico que hago es gastar mas plata que un hp en llamadas hablando con ella....no me pregunte como lo hacemos yo no se un culo de espanol y ella queda gringa cuando le hablo en ingles)...i have to say thanks to my man who just wrote that bit of spanish cause yo no se un culo de espanol como dicen....man i wish I could spell better like you guys just so I could be a real colombian like you and Colombianox and not just another wannabee...

On the maricon issue...you find it funny...i find it funny too....i stated it earlier he could call me any derogatory word he wanted (i even gave him a few examples, plus my friend chipped in with marica hijueputa), i made it clear that I did not like to be called a "jerk" and i believe this is what tugged your strings (when i put the too american in brackets)...furthermore it was your good buddy that threw the first stone by calling me a jerk (and i'm your trout baby...i always take the bait) over something that me and you actually agree on (what a thought...how about that hey...me and you agreeing hey greenday)...you agreed by correcting me on the spelling THEREFORE corroborating what i had said ...and I repeat ...whet anyone that's actually lived in Colombia for more than the proverbial 5 minutes would know that Pereiranas are jokingly referred to as Zordas...the bleeding Pereiranas themselves would not bleeding deny it and only overzealous and naive posters would misconstrue my tongue in cheek, light hearted comment....what's this forum about Colombia? Are there people that are worse off for knowing that in Colombia Pereiranas are sometimes referred to as Zordas? Does that mean all of them are loose? C'mon man! Gimme a break! Only the Colombian Gestapo here would like the rest of the people not to know that because they go on to ASSume that these people will actually THINK that all Pereiranas are like that.

I'll apologise to a Pereirana that took exception to my first post in this thread (somehow i got a feeling that isn't going to happen)...till then the two of you can go and suck on a mango biche in La Plaza De Bolivar in Pereira

I dunno why i bothered with the long rant and rave if you don't believe me greenday...i initially thought sod this forum, but on second thoughts there are a few people here that are true gems, and it is for them that I am sticking around.

LeofromPereira says on Jun 26, 2005, 21:18:

How is Pereira like? Pereira is located in the center of the country in the area called Coffee-Region (in the 60’s and 70’s the local economy was based mainly on coffee). Nowadays, we also have coffee plantations, off course, but there are other many economical activities like tourism, industry and flower plantations... Pereira is also a new city –it’s only 140 years- so we can actually see a peculiar combination between the modern and the traditional in the streets. Some people say that Pereira is “Medellín chiquito”, which means that it is very similar to Medellín, but smaller (Medellín has a population of 4 million people, while Pereira has just half a million). That’s actually a compliment knowing that Medellín is considered by many as the greatest city in South America.

Girls are just awesome! They’re cute, voluptuous and always willing to go out. Most of them are studying at the University, but it doesn’t matter even during school nights they will go to rumbear (go out to eat, dance, drink liquor, get high maybe, etc...), or whatever; and maybe “con todos los juguetes”, that is that a couple might end up in a motel room at “la vía a Armenia” (on the way to Armenia –a city nearby). Please, take no offense. That’s is something that it’s not seen inappropriate by young people here. Besides, we (guys and girls) also like to go out with people from abroad. I think that we find them exotic (just as they find us exotic too). That’s why –I guess- so many foreigners come to visit and have a good time. Wow! by the way, you’re all welcome!

This city is also known for the solidarity of its people. The city’s motto is “La ciudad sin puertas” meaning “The city with no gates” or the city where everybody is welcome. Thus, everybody in the street will talk to you (cab drivers, cashiers, police, bystanders, everybody). All the people seem just to be friendly with no reason. But, there’s a reason: that’s our culture. Anybody is a stranger. Family values are very important for us and we want everybody to feel like in family (Oops!, Am I making my self clear?! –forgive my English, btw, since it isn’t my mother tongue). So, ok, if someday you feel like chilling out and coming down here everybody’s invited and more than welcome. You’ll have the time of your life! ;-)

quindioman says on Jun 27, 2005, 12:38:

ironic indeed greenday....i've learnt a few things from this particular thread....one of those things is that political correctness takes precedence over what really happens in Colombia...
You are completely right in concluding my post was sterotyping women from Pereira.....WELCOME TO COLOMBIA! I am not the first Colombian to say Pereiranas are Zordas, and I'm pretty certain I won't be the last.
Fair is fair....i regret a couple of things...the first being calling you mar****...it was wrong (you had ruffled my feathers-but thta's not an excuse)...the apology is SINCERE.
The second thing i regret is being forced into a situation where I had to defend my comment (which was misconstrued) and coming across so desperate to prove i'm Colombian that I cringe when I read those words.
I should have kept my tongue firmly in cheek but you calling me a wannabee was all this cocky/feisty person needed and I proceeded to make a right dickhead of myself.....thankyou.
I will apologise to any Pereirana that took exception to my post...i'm cheesed off there isn't one in this forum (as far as i know) because I'm sure she would have told you PC bandits the truth (and I would have loved to have seen you 2 trying to pull the same one on her that you did on me)....not even Leo from Pereira took objection.....i'm sorry but people that highlight these stereotypes are just as bad as a true racist or a thug especially when they do not fully understand the context in which the joke was written.....how many times do you need to be told COLOMBIANS ARE LIKE THAT?....costenos are lazy and arrebataos...paisas are on the ball/sly....as much as you guys hate it this is the REAL COLOMBIA...the colombia where a woman walk 50 metres to the shops and she's been woolf whistled umpteen times and told goodness knows how many piropos (not all of them clean)
In Colombia i can call a black man betun but only a gringo whose thou art holier than thou attitude would completely misconstrue....we are self deprecating we take the piss out of each other...we poke fun at our inadequacies....we realise the sun don't shine out of our arses...
You are right...i am very defensive...particularly when all I have and cling to(my Colombian identity) is called into question.....you guys could have called me anything under the sun but as it happens you picked the 2 words that really get my blood racing....i'm the first to admit i#m a no good sirvepanada...if a gringo calls me a drug mule...sure I'll wear the shoes (i realise why they call us that but I know the true reality)
I can understand a backlash to my stereotyping post if it had been posted any other forum but this is a forum about Colombia....warts and all.....but it seems some people would rather one not spew such lowly steroetypical (and very Colombian btw) views on Colombia.....keep on living in your bubble geezer

My beautiful hometown has better weather and IMO hotter girls, less traffic and pollution as well. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Manizales... in fact when the division took place and Santa Rosa was made a part of Risaralda (capital Pereira) and separated from Caldas (capital Manizales), there were protests and road blocks by the santarrosanos (also known as "gueveros") who wanted to maintain ties and loyalty to Caldas and Manizales.

Pereria is Essex of Colombia? In England - swap Pereiran girls for Essex Girls and you get exactly the same joke - infact if a Colombian told me an Essex girl joke I would possibly find it funnier, I certainly would not be insulted on behalf of the women of Essex!!!!

Cockney - I guess it's the way you tell 'em!

BUT are the essex girls.. AS HOT(supposely) as chicas in Pereira? If so, hmm.. maybe i should but Essex on the list to visit too! ja, ja..

It's funny that COL here who rant about "bad sterotype" about the women in pereria are same ones that RAVE about the women in Pereria. The COL GUYS i've met are quite proud that COL women are HOT, heck they TELL me to go check out. So obviously the locals DONT have problems with it.

go2pr, i'm planning a trip in first part of august. PM me on your dates. My plan is Cali, Coffee region(pereira) then Medellin. BTW, don't you live in Brazil? I was told that brazilian women are VERY HOT, some travellers(they haven't been to COL) tell me that are the HOTTEST in the world. This was a traveller that's been to Russia many times.

Caslug There is something hot about Essex girls (as long as you tell them to keep their mouth's shut - the accent will go through you like a dose of salt!)

An Essex girl goes to the council to register for child benefit.
"How many children?" asks the council worker.
"Ten" replies the Essex girl.
"Ten?" says the council worker. "What are their names?"
"Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, and Wayne"

"Doesn't that get confusing?"
"Naah..." says the Essex girl, "it's great because if they are out playing in the street I just have to shout WAAYNE, YER DINNER'S READY or WAAYNE GO TO BED NOW and they all do it..."

"What if you want to speak to one individually?" says the perturbed council worker.
"That's easy," says the Essex girl... "I just use their surnames"

Caslug My trip to Colombia is sheduled for Nov/Dec. So your objective report about chicas in Pereira will be highly welcomed ;

For your question about women in Brasil, seems that this kind of discussions are not really welcome here. Brasilian cities are not on the map of the 'capitals of gorgious women'. lol.

Check your PM.

cockney first of all thanks for the post...it's all good and all in fun...I think anyone who has read my posts, realizes I like to ruffle a few feathers.
You seem like a great guy...

The only reason I'm not too keen on the stereotypes is that there are people who visit this board who don't understand Colombia the way you do, and people form opinions, even though the stereotypes might only be jokes to you...Hell I'm even getting a little "arrecho" thinking about those "sordas"...

I'm just not a big fan of stereotypes, that's all...

I too, apologize to you...

now, regarding being faithful to your wife...I just read where 8 out of 10 Colombianos (men) are unfaithful...does that mean you're one of the 20%?? I hope so....

Yes, Kiwi, you're right, based on my limited experience I would have to say that the paisas are not sluts. OTOH, they do love to hear a gringo speak Spanish. Good thing I'm always with my wife - I might get into trouble.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

On my last trip to manizales 3 weeks ago I wanted to take my girl to the termales in Santa Rosa de Cabal. Unfortunatley there didn't seem to be any public transportation to get there and the only other option if one did not have a car seemed to be a $50 US cab ride. Whats up with that ????
