I am just getting started on "Encountering Development: The Making and Unmaking of the Third World" by Arturao Escobar.
He's Colombian and has a slew of academic articles and texts on Colombia and, more generally the paradoxes of development in the Global South (with many case studies from Colombia usually being expounded upon within the latter.)
So I think he is a pretty impressive export from my-favourite-destination-in-my-travels-thus-far.
Anybody else familiar with him or his work?

island girl says on May 7, 2009, 13:25: Well it was titled Escobar - Arturo Escobar and it was not stirring up NADA. So I thought this title might get peeps to at least read it and find out about a VERY POSITIVE GOOD THING FOR COLOMBIA, another COLOMBIAN being successful and fighting for equality in Colombia. And there seem to be some people on here who a) are very knowledgable about ALL things Colombian and b) are pretty well read and c) exhibit a good mix of both a) and b). So I really wanted some opinions. Desi?

toneloc24 says on May 7, 2009, 13:40: Well, it was just a suggestion in light of what's going on in the latest thread about Escobar, the movie. You may have a good topic, but things get misconstrrued and out of hand here. I still wish you well in your search. "PBH is dead!!!!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
