Has anybody tried this method of shipping?
Meaning you traveled to colombia and you had personal items (new or used) sent via cargo at around same time. Picked them up at airport customs without having to go through a broker, bodegas or pay aranceles.
From what I understand the only thing you have to pay in Colombia is 16% IVA for the declared value of items brought in through cargo company.
Iam thinking of doing this through a company in Los Angeles which charges .99c lb, with a minimum of 250lbs.
Anyone have any experience with this type of shipping ("Equipaje no acompañado"), and also any referrals for trusted shippers in the Los Angeles, CA area?
thanks

Pay $299 and get on the Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas. Departing on November 28th. And Arrive in Santa Marta on December 2 or get off in Cartagena on December 3. Travel in style with class......

mcheasley says on Nov 8, 2009, 19:28: All the paperwork was done by the shipping company.. Make sure you tell them Household Items.. And if its used, make sure they write down USADO.... I always fly in the same day or the day after to avoid storage charges.. You take your paperwork to the Customs office at the airport and they ask for your I.D. and sometimes (plane ticket).. They usuallly open 3 - 5 boxes out of 20 -30.... DO NOT offer a bribe to overlook any items (at least in Medellin), as I saw one guy getting the 3rd degree after offering cash to look the other way.. I have NEVER yet, had to pay any taxes... I was told you have up to 10 - 14 days to pick up your items... I hope this helps...............
