entry into colombia with a criminal conviction

Hi people, I have a conviction for drink driving over a year and a half ago, will it cause any problems on entering into colombia? And yeah I know it was a stupid thing to do....

do they give you a form to fill in on the plane like they do on entry to the states? I don't want to be lying about something as stupid as a drink drive conviction...would rather just admit it and get on with things....

tejasmarcos says on Jan 23, 2008, 07:03:

it is a das form they give you on the plane. they collect it at the airport and do not even look at it. it is for the tourism count they later compile.......

i think it may ask if you have felony convictions. your first dwi in the states in a misdemeaner, not sure about the uk.

GIB, don't advise saying that to Rolos in the Eldorado. In Bogotá, better say Chocha, or you will get some weird looks in the airport!

ah right cool, nah in the UK it is considered a criminal offence but not really serious and they hardly ever jail people for it...if it asks for felonies I'll just say no

and yeah Canada I have to wait 3 years before I can enter if I was to go there as it happened in 2006

I had a DUI in 2004 and no questions asked and no problems getting in Colombia. (two times i have been) I have heard Canada may deny you entry over minor offenses like a DUI. Don't know details of that though.

Love and happiness!

Canada and the United States have the same rules on this matter. They both do not allow criminals into their countries. The only difference is that Canada considers DUI a criminal offence while USA does not. In all three countries, they will only know you are a criminal if you tell them,....or if you piss the immigration officer off and they then do a background check. Always be polite to Immigration officers no matter what they do or how long you wait.

"...Colombian Citizenship within one year." No way on the citizenship-it takes three to five years to become a permanent resident-depending on visa type.

canada pulls a criminal record from the fbi database if they decide to detain you. once you are flagged, it is a dog and pony show every time thereafter.
