And, what does "qualified" mean?

gabolicious says on Jan 19, 2008, 11:32:

see what I mean?

qualified I think means to be prepared to be a teacher, therefore any person "qualified" to teach english is allowed to be a teacher... be colombian or native speakers...

Qualified could mean having a CELTA, I suppose.

Or maybe a somewhat related degree.

Or maybe a degree in Education.

Who knows...

Qualified means certified....meaning being more than a schmuck (as previously stated) off the street. I guess that if you have to ask what qualified is, you are not qualified.

I wonder if the 2 previous interested posters are QUALIFIED.

Yeah.... there are people.. that think they are quailfied.. because a piece of paper says they are... jejejej.. but no jack **** ... just tired of people.. who think.. because they have studied.. in a school... makes them qualifed.. there are millions of people.. "street qualified" by experience... and I bet.. I could.. teach.. the pants.. of them.. and have not been to an esl.. tesol.. o tefl.. training program.. but was offered one.. the best.. tefl.. o whatever the abreviations are... all I had to do.. was pay the school.. $1000 dollars.. and they would give me the certificate..maybe.. it should be the "old school" method of an interview.. and see if the person.. is qualified... hmm.. but what do I know...about being qualified...SEEMS TO ME.. QUALIFIED.. EXPERIENCED.. AND BEING A NATIVE SPEAKER.. IS JUST THAT.. DOESNT SEEM TO SAY A 2-BIT CERTIFICATE.. IS NEEDED.. but just what seems to be important.. to them... is what they wrote...

Non-age old argument...a person who has not learned how to teach English CANNOT successfully do it.

Well, I don't know what qualified means to this institution but my point is why only native speakers and not qualified colombians too...

Este tipo de comentarios y de anuncios me enferman porque tenemos que hacer patria... tenemos que ayudarnos entre nosotros y despues a los extranjeros que solo vienen (algunos) por las vaginas colombianas

englishman says on Jan 21, 2008, 07:16:

Just to elaborate on the original post.

'Qualified' means having a teaching qualification. For example, a TEFL or CELTA.

We teach private individuals and companies. So, this involves traveling to houses or workplaces, usually (though not always) in Poblado.

We will respond to all inquiries this week. Thanks for the interest.

Hm, very interesting....
But somehow I believe that having TEFL or CELTA is not enough... The person must be willing to learn and improve his teaching skills all along... :-) But having one of these two is a first step.... :-)

I just passed TEFL course and have to say that there is still a lot to learn... :-)
