England/Colombian Marriage Visas Granted in 2 Days?

My Colombian wife says that her Colombian friend is marrying a man from England. She says that after the wedding in Colombia, they will simply go to the Colombian emabassy and receive their visa in 2 days.

I told her I had never heard of anything like that. She said "England is different than the United States".

She also says she knows of an English girl who married a Colombian man. Presto, change-o, visa in 2 days (although that was in the past, not sure how long ago).

Is this Visa-2-days-after-marriage thing real? And if so, in retrospect, did we really do the right thing breaking away from the "motherland" with all that Boston Tea Party nonsense? :-)

NOTE: I strongly suspect my wife has been grossly misinformed...?

I'm a bit confused - getting married in colombia and getting a Visa for the UK, from the Colombian Embassy - doesn't make sense. To get a visa for the UK you need to go to the British Embassy. If you've got married in Colombia you need a visa of some kind to get to the UK and pretty sure it'll take more than 2 days. But then again if your wife knows something I don't let me know it'll save me a lot of hassle. Oh, and your wife saying "England being different from the US", she's right - it's better!!!!

I think bringing a Colombian spouse back to the UK is faster and easier than the US. OTOH, it could be a LOT worse. It usually takes a Canadian a year and a half to two years to bring his/her Colombian spouse back.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Isn't there anybody out there from England? Isn't there anybody out there from England who can address this issue, or any Colombians who have married somebody from England?

NOTE: Of course I misspoke when I said "they will simply go to the Colombian emabassy and receive their visa in 2 days". I should have left out the word "Colombian". You guys know what I meant :-)

Norma, ...Norma, you are joking, right?

Sorry that I can't offer any advice other than to goto visajourney.com --- although it's U.S.-focused, I am fairly certain that someone can provide you with much more info.

Your wife is right... I am Colombian and my fiance is British. Your wife is completely right, we are going to apply for my fiance visa and at the Embassy they said they will grant my visa in a couple of days, if we get married will be easier.

I got my tourist visa in one day. Went there with the documents in the morning and I had it in the afternoon. The process in completely different than at the American Embassy.

It all depends The Visa for your Colombian Spouse for settlement in the UK is sure a lot more easy then the US or Canada but they are a few issues that you need to be aware of.

As a British national living in the UK you need to prove that you have suitable housing to accomodate your spouse plus you need to be in employment.

For EU nationals (excl British) living in the UK the EU immigration directive is applicable and only the marriage certificate would suffice to get you EAA Family permit for 5 years.

The Visa's always need to be obtained at the British embassy in Bogota and in most instances can be applied by post.

In my case the paperwork was dealt with on the same day after our marriage.
