What sort of energy drinks can be found in Medellin? How much do they cost for some generic 16-oz can?

Red Bull is widely available in colombia, however it is very expensive at at least 5000K a 10 oz. can. But the 22000K bottle of Ron de Medellin offsets the cost. :)

To each his own.. I love Colombian ron,& could never stand the smell or taste of Bacardi.. Back in the day,I lumped all rum together with Bacardi.except for Meyer's Jamaican... which is like saying all tequila should be like Jose Cuervo.. que pecao.

Actually..Jose Cuervo makes tequila in their Familia Reserva line that I would put up against anything else. But I do agree the Gold is crap. and oft regarded as "da shit"

johnny....gimme a break...comparing the likes of ron medallin with ron bacardi. shame on you......when in rome. and, to that, it's more of a local sweet rum. been drinking it for 20 plus years now. works fine....drink while you clean. might as well bring a bag of tacos and a bottle of cuervo's taco sauce when you come down. shame shame shame.

Thank you Douglas. Bacardi is swill. Ron medellin is delicioso and NEVER gives me a hang over. I drank Bacardi in college because I was a victim of the bat device marketing campaign. No longer. Ron Viejo de Caldas AND Medellin are for superior to any non aged rum.

Yep, Redbull is very expensive, at or up to 30% higher than US prices. I often saw 20 something locals drinking it in nightclubs in Villao. It seemed to almost be a status symbol. Like a fake Armani Exchange T-shirt.

Dwight you are confused.. Bacardi is Puerto Rican.
Not sure tacos and hot sauce come Puerto Rico......

There is nothing wrong drinking something not from Colombia, seeing
as anything besides rum is better not from Colombia...wine..beer...liquor..

Medellin energy drink? coca.

When the exchange rate was good, it was actually cheaper in Carulla than in a regular convenience store in the US.

cody.....just a tongue in cheek comparison....using the mexican drugs (tacos and teq) to compare bringing the harsh bacardi to medallo/colombia. guess it was a dud.

but here in exile, i'm forced to drink marti or bacardi until some saviour/good samaritan brings me a ron medallo when passing through. this last week, my sisters brought me a bottle. alas and along, a real drink. now this is JUST ME, but drinking most rums--bac. included--is more akin to drinking whiskey...harsh...as opposed to ron medallo.

Personally, I don't particularly like the taste of Red Bull on its own, but somehow for my palate it works as a good mixer for Ron Viejo de Caldas or Medellin in conjunction with Canda Dry Ginger Ale and a lime. Plus, gives me the energy I need pa' azotar la baldoza.

Anywho, Ron Medallo at 23K, as opposed to Bacardi 28K at EXITO, is a FAR better value for the quality. Maybe the Bacardi AƱejo or Bacardi 8 might be better in quality, but they are twice the price.

Douglas, I actually liked Marti, for me it was as close to an genuine Mojito as you can get.

steven....never drank that mean green marti. just the anejo and for $10.00bucks, it was a steal.

back in the when the peso was 450 to one dollar and you could buy a carafe of ron medallo for about 8 dollars. good buy.
