Emerging Markets like Colombia will be the winner!! Ecopetrol will be one too!!

‘Bull-Market’ Rally Has Begun, Templeton Asset’s Mobius Says
Share | Email | Print | A A A

By Chua Kong Ho and Paul Gordon

March 23 (Bloomberg) -- The next “bull-market” rally has begun, Templeton Asset Management Ltd.’s Mark Mobius said, refuting predictions that the equities meltdown will continue.

“Stocks are building a base for the next bull market,” said Mobius, 72, who helps oversee about $20 billion of emerging-market assets at San Mateo, California-based Templeton. The fund is finding “bargains” in every emerging market, which are in “better shape” than developed economies.

Templeton is looking for companies that are “cash-rich,” have low debt and higher dividend yields, Mobius said in a Bloomberg Television interview from Hong Kong. Mobius said he’s looking for companies that can invest for future growth yet have cash left to pay shareholders.

The MSCI Emerging Markets Index has gained 23 percent since reaching a four-year low on Oct. 27, outperforming the 2.5 percent drop in the MSCI World Index and 9.5 percent decline in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.

Emerging markets made up the 10 best-performing stock benchmark indexes this year, with China’s Shanghai Composite Index topping the list with a 26 percent gain.

Brazilian oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA, Cia. Vale do Rio Doce, the world’s biggest iron-ore producer, and Chinese oil producer PetroChina Co. are among the top holdings of Mobius’s Templeton Emerging Markets Trust.

Colombia is exporting a little bit of oil, but it´s not too much. Longerterm it has great potential. In how many places it was not possible to explore for oil in Colombia and now it´s possible.

Gringoloid - in relation to oil and continuing demand, have you read Stephen Leeb? He is very pro oil (and commodities); just read his latest book and was eye opening. Looking at Petrobas, SLB and transocean at the moment; will have a poke around to look at Ecopetrol.

========================
I don't think this will make much difference. World wide,, or at least until I see a Semi/Bus/Train/plane with a windmill attached, oil will always be worth something,, probably a lot in relation to currencies.

So,, I've decided to own oil related equities and one copper company as a hedge against inflation. Gold is OK but there has been a steady rise in oil stocks,, Hey ,, not a bad sector for trading. One company up 5% two days, 35% since Jan. Time to sell, again.

Damn,, Oil up and gold down/up,, Hummm, Gold up 10% since Jan.. not bad.

Plus, Obama does not seem to be a big supporter of Coal,, Hey,, isn't Coal a Colombian BIG export,, damn,, first Free Trade now Coal,, I think the guy has a hard on for Colombia ? Then again,, China needs coal.

====================
Interesting link but planes get old and are scrapped.

One of my first jobs stationed me in Roswell New Mexico,, I'm thinking 1971? Roswell has one of the longest runways in the United States,, abadoned military base. The 747 is what? More than 40 years old and many flew international flights ? Lots of miles.

I got to watch the Cargo Version of the 747 being certified, the passenger version had finished it's cerftication.

There were many impressive tests,, touch and go, stall speed, etc. but the one that stands out if my mind is the ABORT on take off. I was amazed,,, the jet would reach a speed and the pilot would apply the brakes and reverse thruse,, A 747 in a smoking skid down the runway,, something I'll never forget. When the plane stopped loud noises like a shotgun being fired caught my attention,, I asked and was told it was the RELIEF valves on the tires blowing. Then,, amazing,, they rolled out new tires and wheels and did a change on the runway.

Humm,, swim to Colombia ?

Before that happens it looks like some good deals on flights.

Remember,, it's not how bad things become, it's how bad things are for 99% of the people and how to avoid being in that group.

==========================
I agree but,, in my opinion, that means more private jobs both in engineering and construction,, lower electricity rates and,, gosh,, while the administration wants to create jobs,, it seems shovel ready jobs (have knowledge of shovels ?) is HUGE.

Investments in a sector that would create good jobs in Manufacturing, Engineering and Construction, lower electric rates, reduce dependence of foreign oil,, not a priority,, well,, we'll see, I hope you're right.

I just traded a lot of GE (up 7%) and KBR (up 4%),, my nuclear plays. I'll buy them back for less,, maybe not.

Damn,, I'm lucky,, news flash,, there was a strike on a rig in Brazil,,, PBR??,, ha, ha, ha, I'm 90% sold,,, come on unions,, do a number !!! Maybe I'll move ?

Know who else rides it down,, Jim Cramer,, still,, he is a source of research tips and a good entertainer. He would make a great politician, that guy can come up with amazing 180 degree changes, mostly after the fact. Let’s see,, his big favorite Sears,, SHLD. 108 to 42 in one year,, Ouch,, Ruth’s steak house RUTH,, 7 to 1.32 in one year,, yikes it’s up big in the last few days,, anyway, off the sub one buck lows.

BOGOTA, Colombia, March 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Shareholders are hereby reminded that the Annual General Shareholders' Meeting of Ecopetrol S.A. (EC:$18.25,00$-0.45,00-2.41%) ("Ecopetrol" or the "Company") will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2009, starting at 9:00 a.m. (the "Meeting"), at the International Center of Business and Exhibitions (Centro Internacional de Negocios y Exposiciones, Corferias), located at Carrera 37 No. 24 - 67 in Bogota, Colombia.

The meeting will be broadcasted live on local TV (Canal Institucional) and on the Company's website. That's 9:00 am,, Colombia time,, this Thursday.
=============================
BTW: If you're some kind of fruit case crusader,, well,, don't bother to go in person,, looks like a NO SHIT meeting.

EC is on the NYSE. Ha,, not much volume,, 40K shares per DAY,, today,, humm,, 5,400 as of 10:39.

Stock up about 20% in the last month but shows zero gain year to date?. Maybe,, is this possible,, EC has the technology to slant drill into the Chavez Black Gold Honey Pot and suck a little out ?

OH,, gosh, they are doing something else very strange. We can only hope the U.S. administration does not get wind of what's happening. EC (those oligarchy bastards) is sure to be slapped down for trying to make money and increase the energy supply.

Thinking about it,, the administration seems too stupid, plus,, acting like a pack of dogs that bought an AIG fire hydrant and are gleefully pissing on their new toy should keep them occupied.

There might be some oil they can find in Colombia,, not that I’ve heard of any,, which might explain why they are on the present course.

Think I’ll buy some at 17.51 before the meeting,, if it drops that low. If not,, at ?? after the meeting. Then again,, I might change my mind,, or,, the whole idea might seem stupid.

All things considered, EC has held up very well over the last six months (the USD price on the NYSE). Oil plummeted and the dollar soared, a double whammy for a US shareholder, and it just bumped along at $16 to $18 per share.

Compared to the rest of the stock market "dead money" like EC looks pretty good.

Maybe because EC is bidding on Gulf Blocks.

============================
HOUSTON (Dow Jones)--Colombian state-controlled oil firm Ecopetrol S.A. (EC) is making a splash in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, where it became the 10th highest bidder in a federal lease sale, slightly trailing industry leaders Chevron Corp. (CVX) and Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM).

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: Sofia, a 34-year-old Frenchwoman, moved here a year ago to take a job in advertising, so confident about Dubai's fast-growing economy that she bought an apartment for almost $300,000 with a 15-year mortgage.

Now, like many of the foreign workers who make up 90 percent of the population here, she has been laid off and faces the prospect of being forced to leave this Gulf city — or worse.

"I'm really scared of what could happen, because I bought property here," said Sofia, who asked that her last name be withheld because she is still hunting for a new job. "If I can't pay it off, I was told I could end up in debtors' prison."
