Elige tu reina

A lot of pictures, but so what. My wife hates this contest because she says it makes Colombia seem like too much of a third world country so I need an outlet. Here are the candidates for Srta. Colombia from Minicromos:

My gf doesn't hate this contest, she just hates my interest in it. I'd vote for Tatiana for Miss Colombia, but Monica is the most sexy.

Miamigo Why does your wife thinks that the contest makes look Colombia like a tirth world????

I don't get it. I think fat Colombians showing their bely with those super tight jeans and the fat stiking a little or a lot on the street that makes Colombia look like a tirth world Country. But I defend the beauty of the women on my Country and I think these women are very competitive to any other beauty around the world. They are elegant, classy, at least went to college, and travel a lot, so their cultural enviroment is very rich. Far away from tirth world.

Don't you thinik?

Colombian Women Without question, Colombian Women are the most beautiful in the world. I have travelled to Canada, USA, Mexico, Guatamala, Honduras, Nicaraga, El Salvador and Costa Rica and Colombian Women are the most beautiful of them all.

I'm going with Meta, Atlantico, and Cundinamarca I'm disappointed in both paisas. You can see a helluva lot better looking women in the street in Armenia or Medellin.

harocha, my wife thinks that only third-world countries make a big deal over their beauty contests, and that Colombia should move away from this kind of thing.

Latinos here in T.O Is always making a big deal about how hot Colombian women are in general, sometimes Colombiana is like a synomim of "pretty". God knows what else, because sometimes when you tell a guy you are from colombia, they get this slimy look on their face....

Anyway, I'm not into beauty pageants, but the montanera in me can't help but be chismosa about these kind of events....

the lady from Cordoba is very beautiful, I agree that Antioquia and Quindio "no estan en na'".

Guajira is very exotic looking and Choco is very pretty, she has that tony Braxton look.

It's the same here, Colombiche In Miami, people say the same thing about Colombian and Venezuelan woman, I've got Cuban friends who are always talking about "South American chicks" and they mean just Colombians and Venezuelans, it is kind of a stereotype but like many stereotypes there is a kernel of truth.

Anyway, you're right, i feel chismoso but the women here are rightly or wrongly asking people to judge them on their physical characteristics so here we go!

So, you didn't know Michael Jackson was chosen as Srta. Bolivar???

Colombiche says on Nov 2, 2005, 13:44:

Miamigo Yeah, I hear a lot about the south american stereotype, but it is usually about Colombianas and Venezolanas, they are not exactly referring to Ecuatorianas and Peruanas when they say South American.

The truth is, women are more judgemental of each other than men are of women. Colombian women are always sizing each other up, I very often feel stared up and down by my mother's friends and my aunts, they check you all the way from the tip of your toes to the top of your head and they are mentally critizing even the color of my nailpolish, this is a very typical female colombian trait. They will take note of everything, even if you cut your hair half an inch.

The other day I was at the Colombian bakery and this Colombian girl brazely stared at me, I felt like telling her "que paso mija, tengo micos en la cara o que?". I just held her stare, but she wouldn't budge.... I had to look away finally, because her stare was a bit funny, almost like she was trying to seduce me. I ran.. I mean, I am patriotic, but not that much!

Some must come from fairly comfortable families, note that a few are students at high end schools like La Javeriana, Uni Andes, etc. and all are enrolled in post-secondary.

Harocha, I think that some people have difficulty with beauty pagents becuase they see it as an embodiement or connection to the preoccupation some people have with appearances. I have a cousin ( or two) in Colombia who have sacrificed money that should be spent on rent or groceries in the quest for fashion and beauty just to buy some certain kind of clothes or lotions. I don't think they are alone in this, and personally, no matter where in the world it happens, I think it is somewhat extreme.

cam0940 says on Nov 2, 2005, 14:17:

Don't forget the Brazilians. They have that stereotype too, maybe moreso than Colombians and Venezuelans.

Interesting comment Colombiche, that women are more judgmental of women than men are of women. I have long suspected this, and it's interesting that so much money is spent on all the different makeups, fashion, etc when the average guy couldn't tell the difference, and generally couldn't care less. It's almost like something other than a man defines what is "sexy" or what "looks good". Example, no waif ever turned me on, but for the longest that's all you saw on the runways. Women appear to be far more in touch with what's "in this season", whereas a guy might still be turned on by what girls were wearing three seasons ago. I was reading in a magazine that had a section called "What's Hot and What's Not" and they were just ripping these girls that to me, looked just fine. If this is the case, I think women put too much pressure on themselves. It doesn't take all that for a guy to appreciate the way you look. These pageants are just an extension of that. Yes, the contestants are pretty, but there are plenty of regular girls just walking around the street that a guy would be just as happy with. What makes these ones "queens" and the regular girls just... well... regular? One of these will become a celebrity when queened Miss Colombia, and I'm just not seeing anything that is SO glaringly superior to any of them. No offense to Toneloc, but check out the girl in his photo gallery. My God!!! She's at least as good looking, if not better, than these girls. No offense to Kat, don't want to overstep any boundaries, but she used to have a picture up that was at least as good looking as these girls too. So what separates Miss Colombia from just regular girls?

Being from the caribbean with latin blood and latin relatives the sizing up of competition has to do with how well the other woman can attract high quality men. Quality men meaning a man with lots of money. So spending time and money to make the best of your looks is supposed to pay off BUG TIME.

Not to put down my family but they act as though a beautiful girl is "supposed" to marry a rich successful guy because she can.Love does not appear to be the primary reason for marriage, money is which is sad. If she marries an average guy she loves she "wasted her beauty".a girl born with little beauty is pitied since she will not attract a rich man. A lot of this has stemmed from the fear of poverty as most women cannot support themselves and children in these xcountries. It's called survival I guess.

When the girls in the family marry a doctor, lawyer or engineer she is praised. One of my cousins is married to a plastic surgeon, another just married a multimillionaire with numerous car lots. Their parents are now "big shots". class system at it's worst.Beauty used for greed.Even if the marriage is miserable the family will encourage and even bully her to stay by threatening not to speak to her if she brings shame from divorce.

I married the man I loved and we are struggling to build our success together. I don't compete with other women over looks. I have very secure in my relationship as it is built on solid love rather than something shallow.

That's an interesting story and yours is a beautiful attitude. I'm just saying that any given day, you can sit in a mall or on a park bench for a few minutes in Colombia, wait a few minutes, and see a regular girl walking down the street that is just as attractive--if not more attractive--than these girls. But these ones are alleged "beauty queens" (with the attitude that comes with that), when I don't really see them as so much better than una cualquiera walking in the mall.

Santander probably had one of those surgeries where they remove the bottom ribs, look at Thalia you'll see she had the same surgery, I don't like that kind of surgery at all because it looks unnatural, but a lot of the women here had something done, for example, Meta had her boobs and nose done, I'm wondering if Choco had anything done, tiene un rostro hermosisimo, tambien una cola espectacular.

They all have many things done before going to this thing. lipos, corrections, boob jobs, teeth whiteness, even hair extensions, and remembered one of the candidates that became Ms Colombia even had Blue contact lenses.

But anyway the 3 favourites are Cordoba, Atlantico and meta. Guajira could be what we call in Colombia el palo.(meaning she could be the surprise in the 5 finalists)

escuelas y talleres de reinas it's a big industry in Colombia and Venezuela, I ve heard. How can these girls afford all these surgeries, liposuctions, silicone implants, dresses, accessories, personal trainers, galmour classes, modelling classes, speach training etc. etc? It take a long time and a lot of money to become a "reina" in Colombia. My guess is that most of these girls come from the top of their local society and have wealthy parents. Some municipal of regional monies must also be funnelled in? Sponsoring pays a lot of the expenses too, but still?

Bread and circus for the starving people?

My favorite candidate is the graceful caleña whose pic was not included above:)

High Society!!!! I have a couple of friends from College (private) who went to the contest at different times, and my siter's good friend went last year. All these girls are rich, their Daddy and Mommy pay for everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, they spend thousands of dollars preparing the girls for the contest, they have more money than most of the people on PBH, (this is just me exagerating, i don't know how rich you guys are) at least more more money than me for sure. I remember my syster's good friend was a little Gordita, and in 1 year they made her look like Miss Universe with surgeries and Gym training. While some of us wake up in the morning thinking how we are going to do to pay the bills and put food on the table or like the Colombiche's picture (Juan Carlos with one leg) thinking about how to figure out the future with one leg and no money probably, these girls wake up around 10 a.m. by the maid with breakfast on bed and the beauty rutine wating for them. Hard life uh???

and yes Desi Bread and Circus for the starving people...

I still say give me an "Around the Way" girl anyday vs and injected, stuffed, plastic, chemical treated, muneca anyday. They can spend hundreds, they can spend thousands. I still don't see anything so overwhelmginly gorgeous about these girls. The cashier I saw at Vons tonight was just as hot as any of these. And probably of stronger character.

I have a belly and I don't mind if my girl has a belly. Or is too thick in the thighs or ankles. Reinas do absolutely nothing for me physically.
For one thing they are all so freaking homogenized. You may as well buy a realdoll (www.realdoll.com).

Colombiche, do you remember in 1997 they had the Miss Latin contest in TO at that bigass hotel near the airport? Colombia came in 3rd, and I think that girl shoulda won. There was some serious sour grapes going around from the Dominicans and Cubans at that event!!!

My vote is for Señorita Amazonas because she loves to read... and being from Leticia she has a great public library to read in, la BIBLIOTECA PUBLICA AREA CULTURAL BANCO DE LA REPUBLICA!

But for some reason her photo was not included in this thread. Was she already showing?

To me it doesn't matter whether she is pregnant or not, or married or not, or already has children, like her predecessor, la señorita Amazonas Katherine Sánchez.

And a relative of mine went to represent Mss Cordoba I think was 1987 the same the departamento and the family help her. She went to compete in Mss Turismo International and won.
