I'm not sure but the name "el chico" makes it sound like its the gay district. hehehe

You may get hit on a couple of times but I'm sure you'll be safe. :-P

You'll be OK in El Chicó Best area in town. Plenty of restaurants and clubs a short taxi ride from Bogota Plaza.

el chico Hi, I'm from Bogota, and that's a good area. It's close to Parque de la 93. There are many bars and cool places to go dancing.
Hope this helps.

Very good area... I live in Los Rosalas and we head about 15/20 blocks to Chico often to eat-safe and upper class

Kevin....fear not. In fact Enjoy!! If you are not safe at the Bogota Plaza, you are not safe anywhere in Bogota. That is how safe it is. The area is great as mentioned above. Your near the entertainment area of Parque 93, and a short cab ride to Zona Rosa. Many malls nearby as well. You are far north, so if you have to go to the Central area, prepare for a bit of a journey.

Not really so far north, I mean if you think that Chicó is far from the center, what would you say about Santa Barbara... or worse, Cedritos!!!

Gator Los Rosalas is a beautiful area. We like it and have tried to find an apartment but everything there is very expensive. Please let us know if you see anything for sale at a good price like "forced sale".

Incidentally, is the moniker Gator a synonym for a University of Florida supporter?

I just stayed at the Bogota Plaza for 7 days. It was a good hotel, the area might not have clubs or good restaurants nearby but you can easily go to Zona Rosa, Parque 93 and Unicentro by Taxi.

Regarding Safety in Bogota Bogota is just like another city -- take your precautions. I have taken the normal bus, the transmillenium bus and hopped a cab in the middle fo the road. Once I was cheated by a cabbie, but once one guy was so honest I tipped him.
I did not carry my camera or anything, and did not feel threatened. Of coruse, I look kind of Colombian. Until, that is, I start talking, but people always went out of their way to help.
There is also supposed to be a hotel near Andino Mall, called Lago 76, which is good.

aztec U of F graduate a lot of years ago and nope, the wife's first name is not Ali. Most of the nice apartamentos are $225.000.000 and up-seems lately mostly up. Ours is in the area of the Russian, Spain and Chilean Embassies about four blocks from the U S Ambassador's residence.

I will keep an eye out and send you a pm

Gator That is a very nice area. The prices seemed higher than that though. We were, however, being shown apartments by an agent. Perhaps we should be more explicit in our instructions to the agent.

I am a "Bulldog"! Hope that doesn't change your offer of help. There should be plenty of room in the neighborhood for a Gator and a Bulldog.
