Eillen's Diary (Foreigner Farc Militant)

Nowdays PBH had been bombarded with posts about the dolar exchange (still without hitting the $2200 mark. Ilegal inmigrants and the usual post about some colombian women breaking foreigners hearts and wallets. :-).

To balance a litlle bit here is the dairy of a young woman from Holland who is enrolled with the Farc, by reading her accounts I don´t see much difference on her way of living and the difference with regular civilians.

Foreigners intromision in Colombia is no new.

Interesting article, webmanco. Thanks for the link. But "Tirofijo from Spain"? I didn't get that. Pedro Antonio Marin aka Manuel Marulanda aka Tirofijo was born in Quindio. The late Manuel Perez, a Spaniard priest, was one of the heads of ELN.

Thanks Sr. Tertius, I will edit the post reflecting your accurate aclaration.

"Tirofijo" es el apodo de Manuel Vélez, que es el alias de Pedro Antonio Marín,
un campesino que nació en Génova, Quindío, el 12 de mayo de 1930.

The article and its related pieces on EL TIEMPO are indeed quite interesting.

As for life in FARC...the diaries of this woman highlight both positives and negatives, as well as many rather ambiguous elements, so it all depends on what you want to focus on.

Of course, one still can't agree with her choice of lifestyle, but that's out of our hands.

Her parents must be very proud of her. Her fate is most likely an early death, prison in Colombia or a continued life on the run (in or out of the FARC).

Geez, Tinto, what a pessimist. I seriously doubt she faces any of those ends considering what a weak and inept foe the Colombian army is. In the areas that the FARC control they do whatever the hell they want to do.

Tinto: Supposedly her parents may at least have "doubts" of some sort, according to the EL TIEMPO story.

john_stark: That's usually and historically the case, but things have been gradually improving in no uncertain terms...referring to the most recent example, that the Army apparently was able to kill at least two medium ranking leaders and capture the PC of "Carlos Antonio Lozada" (far more important than the diaries of this woman, in politico-military and strategical terms...could even be the FARC equivalent of the "Jorge 40" PC), who may also have been wounded, during the same operation is a sign that they're applying more pressure than in the past.

As for whatever happens to that woman...time will tell, I guess.
