education level in Colombia, various cities

Colombia has many good universities, some fine scientists, and physicians. But like every country, this must vary by region.

I'm sure Bogota, Medellin, and Manizales have a higher percentage of individuals with degrees than say, Cartagena. But what about Barranquilla and Cali?

Does anyone have an opinion on this? Even impressions are worth something.

Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Cartagena Barranquilla by it self, has more profesionals than Manizales. Barranquilla has one of the best Universities in the health education as it is Universidad del Norte, and there are other good colleges at this city, has the best public conservatory of the whole country and their musical - educational level is very very high.

Architecture and computer ingeniering is very good here as well.

Cartagena has great medical public school, and in Architecture Jorge Tadeo Lozano University is great. This city has a lot of profesionals as well, and good very good schools, The Escuela Naval y great.

Santa Marta is growing pretty fast in this matter, students do not have to go anymore to other cities to get college education.

Other small towns in the Atlantic send their students to Barranquilla where everyone goes to get college education. There are a lot of professionals coming from this town.

OK, what about Cali? Gracias amigo. Barranquilla sounds like a great place in many ways. Any thoughts on the level of education in Cali?

I think that overall Manizales universities have a better level than the ones in Barranquilla or Cartagena. You see some costenos studying in Manizales, while I seriously doubt the contrary occurs. On a national level, the only university from the coast relatively well known is La Universidad del Norte; Manizales, a much smaller city, has la Universidad Nacional, Universidad de Caldas, Universidad Autonoma, etc.

2003 Chart I prepared this in 2003,, because I thought the women were more educated,, Colombia is in the minority of the worlds countries with women having a higher literacy rate.

Literacy Chart

Numbers are numbers,, however a review of the CIA fact book clearly indicates that when the women have a lower (sometimes a lot lower) literacy rate,, then that country will also have a repressive government and the women will be considered subservient.

Well Cali has the Uni del Valle which is public and has a good reputation for quality. After that there's the Javeriana in Cali and the ICESI for economics and business. Those would be the best, after that there are several other private unis which I think have a decent level like the San Buenaventura, Autonoma, and the Santiago de Cali.
