Three other planes will fly to Ecuador in one-month term (Photo: AFP)

Three out of six Mirage-50 aircrafts donated by Venezuela to Ecuador landed on Thursday on a base of the Ecuadorian site of Taura, 280 km southwest of Quito. Three other planes will arrive in one-month term.
The aircrafts, manned by Venezuelan pilots, landed three days after the scheduled time, due to a controversy over Colombia's clearance to cross its territory.
An official of the Ecuadorian air force (FAE) told AFP that the planes were coming from Panama (?), where they were since last Monday, waiting for the authorization. According to the Colombian government, the permit was granted one week ago.

sloopskipper says on Oct 30, 2009, 23:57: It's strange that they came from Panamá (?) and that there was a question about Colombian airspace. Perhaps they can't navigate over the water, and fly low level looking for the street signs? Seems that some people think "everybody's outa step but me". 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

He is retired USAF, and it's tough to imagine that he wouldn't know about if, if they did in fact transit Panamá. Seems that some people think "everybody's outa step but me". 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Maybe the same ones who maintained the Russian tanks which couldn't make it to the Colombian frontier). Don't think I'd wana ride in one.
