I'll believe it when I see it, as usual.

But if they do free her, my bet it will be to try and get political recognition without freeing all the hostages. Which is of course unacceptable.

juancegomez says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:00:

Why isn't this in EL COMERCIO or EL UNIVERSO yet?

That is, in the mainstream press from Ecuador.

The claim seems to be from Europa Press / Tribuna Latina.

In any case, we'll soon find out if this is real or just speculation.

robi666 says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:05:

SO STRANGE...
Correa just said in front of everybody that Ecuador was contacting FARC for the release of the Ecuadorian hostage.

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."

juancegomez says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:05:

gato-bandido: Could be repeating the same report from the same source...in any case, wait and see.

jorgegdiaz says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:07:

I do hope it´s true.
Timing can´t be more appropiate. Just when FARC stated wouldn´t free anymore hostages!
I hope they say Ivan Rios was working on their release too !

Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day.

romy says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:09:

"how convenience huh!"
No, Correa had already said he was in the process of negotiating for the release of hostages...

robi666 says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:12:

Yes, that was the second version.
1) We didn't have contact with FARC
2) We had contact for the release of Ingrid
3) We had contact for the release of the Ecuadorian hostage (direct on TV)
4) "se negociaba la liberación de Betancourt para "el 14 de marzo" by ministro de Seguridad de Ecuador

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."

buggy says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:13:

Strange.
Ecuador announcing release of hostages (with Ingrid).
Colombian army announcing the death of Ivan Rios (without the body).

Another attempt of Uribe to make the release fail ?

"Artículo 20 de la Constitución Política. Se garantiza a toda persona la libertad de expresar y difundir su pensamiento y opiniones,...No habrá censura."

juancegomez says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:17:

Again...why does the Ecuadorian media ignore this apparent report, at least at the time of this writing?

I mean...it could be real (or NOT), but it makes no sense for them to report it after everyone else...even after EL TIEMPO posts that claim from Tribuna Latina / Europa Press.

One would expect Ecuador's press to be the first outlet.

But whatever....

romy says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:18:

Very strange as Correa claims Uribe knew Ingrid would be released in March. However we still have to wait to evaluate, as things stand right now there is no body of Ivan Rios and Ingrid is still in the jungles somewhere.

El Polo says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:20:

Correction:

Colombia announcing the death of Ivan Rios
Ecuador announcing the release of hostages

romy says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:25:

juance, although I also think it is. You are assuming that this is game strategy from Ecuador, I think in tense times like these we can't be too quick in accepting as truth anything that anyone says and much less our own assumptions.

jonas says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:35:

Also take into account that apparently she has been very sick. If they don´t release her now she might die in the jungle and that certainly wouldn´t do the farc any good.

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been

juancegomez says on Mar 7, 2008, 11:39:

Live on RCN, during Chavez's speech at the Grupo del Río, Rafael Correa explicitly stated that the information is false.
