I am thinking of visiting Colombia next month to start an ecotourism company. The idea is that the company will be run commercially but donate most of its profits to a Colombian NGO that we will work closely with.
It is great to see how much Colombians now appreciate their enormous biodiversity and are keen to conserve it. However bringing in more revenue from internal and external tourists that want to enjoy the beauty and wildlife of this country will help to underpin this.
Has anyone on here got any advice to give? Either anyone who knows anything about ecotourism in Colombia or who has experience of starting companies there?

Whilst this is a commercial venture most of the profits (if any) will be used to support conservation of forests and wildlife in Colombia, and associated environmental education projects.

Mr. Hollywood says on Jul 13, 2006, 15:36: there's lots There's lots of already exisiting "ecotourism" going on in Colombia by which I mean rafting, climbing, treking, etc. The problem is one of assuring safety and then marketing to the people who can pay top $$$, namely, foreigners. I wish you lots of luck in a noble endeavor.
