Dynamite is a common way to fish I've seen it in other places including places that are thought to be pristine.

Construction of highways to the north between the cities of Ciénaga and Barranquilla in 1956-1960 and on the eastern shore of the Magdalena River in the 1970s has lead to the disruption of most of the ecoregion from its natural state. Decline in mangrove forest during the period between 1956-1987 was 40.6%; by 1993 it had increased to 56.6% and in 1995 reached 63.8% of the total alive in 1956 (Gónima et al. 1998). In addition to the deterioration of the landscape, the decline in the mangrove forest has created effects throughout the lacunar system such as the loss of habitats for a large number of species of fish, birds and bentonic organisms.
