Easy to get married in San Andreas??

Robert just posted how easy it was to get married in San Andreas- birth certificate and passport. (Congratulations! Robert!).
Sounds so simple, there must be a hook someplace. Nothing can be that simple in Colombia, can it? It would certainly solve my problems!! And the problems of many others. Anyone have any input on this?
Thanks so much for everyones help on my other post.

San Andrés? In Colombia we have two different names Andrés (masculine) Andrea (feminine). Then if you are referring to the Island, the correct name is San Andrés.
And about the easy way to get married, that is good. The difficulty here it's to have a long, long and happy marriage. Jejeje. Everything is about the marriage and not the wedding. jajaja
Have fun...

Oh my gosh! I really do know how to spell- I was just to excited there was a simpler way to solve my problems with documents!! Thanks you.
It is about the marriage- but first we need to get the wedding!! I spoke with my novio this morning and he is going to look into it. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Tammy Hi Tammy,
Not Robert but I posted that it is very easy to marry on the Island of San Andres. It is realy easy, believe me. I married in june 2005. I went to the notaria with my passport and birth certficate(translated in spanish with apostille). My wife had to present a proof that she is single and her birth certificate. We married civil.
Back home in the Netherlands i registrated this marriage.
If you need more information, please write me.
Good luck.

Tammy!! Civil Marriage in Colombia is a matter of LOCAL civil law, but the rules are very often different from notary to notary and especially from department/city to departmento/city. Often the rules are subject to a fair amount of discretion by the local notary. Some of the requirements often seem to change with little or no notice.

Tammy! My BEST advice to you is have your fiance NAIL EVERYTHING DOWN before hand to prevent unpleasant surprises. Have him pick and stick with one notary.

P.S. There is very little leeway if it is to be a Catholic wedding and I am fairly sure you will need a Certificado de Soltería (Certificate of Singlehood) for any wedding ceremony in Colombia.

Good luck

Thank all of you! Ronald (yes, I can't spell San Andres, nor do I know the difference between Robert and Ronald! I'm on a roll today!) sent me the info of the notario (he said there is only one). I in turn sent the info to another member here who is more ready than me. She is haveing her novio look into it and contact the notorio.
I have 4 certificados de solteria. I just cannot find out where my exhusband did our divorce, therefore I have no divorce papers and the notario insists on having them. I am continueing in my search, but if this is easier, I would do that.
All of your concerns are very encouraging to me. I did get in a little trouble on the "other side" because I am not familiar with some of the humor here..I see when things are serious, everyone else is also and helpful.

For the most part, Tammy, the advice here is serious and straightforward. The visa process is stressful enough without having strangers on the internet yanking your chain about it.

Tammy I did not need my divorce papers to get married - I needed only the Certificado de Solterio. You will probably need your divorce papers for the visa application, though.

I'm getting married on San Andres My novio just spoke with the notorio on San Andres, and he told him only passport and birth certificate are needed and a translator if your Spanish is not great.I( am still taking 3 certificados de solteria). Since I am haveing unbeleivable trouble with the death certificate of my husband, we are making plans to be married there instead of Cali. I finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

Anyone needing documents from California- start getting them way earlier than you think- some of the offices are only working part time due to budget cuts.
My house is sold and most of my things are already in Cali, so hopefully I'll be a bride soon.

Marriage in RC Church was easy as well I married in a roman catholic church in Cali, the only thing i needed was a certificate of solteria and proof i was baptisted. Both documents i received from my local church.

After the marriage i registered it with the notaria, that's all!

Update on marriage on San Andres Not that I don't trust my novio to get the right info from the notorio about getting married there (SAI) correct, or the info I received from someone who recently married there, but... It seems to easy.
I was on another website about SAI and emailed back and forth with someone there who arranges marriage ceremonies. I was told the law on the island has recently changed- they are wanting more tourists and trying to attract people by way of easy marriage (she actually said "like Las Vegas"). I asked about certificados de solteria, and was told you are required to just swear under oath you are not married to anyone else- then she said if you are, it's your problem, not theirs -lol. She said the requirements are only passport and birthcertificate- the same as what the notorio said.
We are making plans to marry there (SAI) unless I can locate the missing death certificate of my husband in the next 2 weeks.
I hope I am not a "test case". To good to be true has always been just that- for me anyway.

What great new! What a coincidence running into your article. Me (Canadian gringo) and my Colombian girlfriend were planning a vacation in March to SAI just because I heard there are more English speaking people on SAI than in Barranquilla so we thought it would be better for both our communication. But now, finding out about how easy it is to get married there, I think we will definately plan to return there for the wedding. So, only one question, once you're married, what else is needed to get her into Canada? It can't be that easy can it?????

What great new! What a coincidence running into your article. Me (Canadian gringo) and my Colombian girlfriend were planning a vacation in March to SAI just because I heard there are more English speaking people on SAI than in Barranquilla so we thought it would be better for both our communication. But now, finding out about how easy it is to get married there, I think we will definately plan to return there for the wedding. So, only one question, once you're married, what else is needed to get her into Canada? It can't be that easy can it?????

What great new! What a coincidence running into your article. Me (Canadian gringo) and my Colombian girlfriend were planning a vacation in March to SAI just because I heard there are more English speaking people on SAI than in Barranquilla so we thought it would be better for both our communication. But now, finding out about how easy it is to get married there, I think we will definately plan to return there for the wedding. So, only one question, once you're married, what else is needed to get her into Canada? It can't be that easy can it?????
