A Colombian chica I´ve been talking to wonders if she´d have a better chance of getting a tourist visa to visit the US if she acquires Venezuelan citisenship (through her mom there). I seriously doubt it. Anyone think it could be so?

stephen_aubrey says on Jun 5, 2009, 18:53: Many Colombians do this, they believe this gives them more opportunities for travel, and less stereotype/problems to travel with a Venezuelan passport ,I have some Colombian friends here that did this exact same thing, but whether this is true in the real world or not I don't know . They can travel visa-free throughout the EU, many places in the Caribbean and other places in the world. I would definitely recommend her to get one for other type of travel, just not to the US.

miamimike says on Jun 6, 2009, 00:27: A Venezuelan Passport will not help one iota more then a Colombian Passport in her getting a Visa to the USA. This was true 15 years ago and its true today. I doubt the The Presidents of the country had much to do with increasing or decreasing her chances. Now if you are a Venezuelan( or Argentinian) of Italian Ancestery(grandparents italian)there is a good chance of getting Italian citizenship. Conchale Vale!! says on Jun 6, 2009, 07:07: Not at all. Years ago yes with the current situation no. I have a lot of friends from Venezuela with good jobs, money in bank etc that were denied. My ex there has masters degree, kid to go back to, job , house denied for USA. And she has traveled to Europe and other places outside Venezuela. It does make it much easier to travel to other places. However there is a lot of discussion that this will change. For example can travel to Spain without a visa. That does not mean Spain has to let you in because you are there. Have several friends in last year that were turned back. Wanted to see a lot more money in hand, hotel reservations etc. They just changed visa law for Venezuela in UK and this will probably follow in other places due to political and economic issues there.
