EARTHQUAKE!

My friend just told me there was an earthquake there? did anyone else feel it? Is it normal to be so relaxed about them he was just like h/o i need to do something, then he came back and told me there was an earthquake and then just continued on with the conversation

I'm not sure what the plate structure is like in the central pacific, but there was a 5.6 undersea quake in Indonesia earlier today, it was about 27 km deep. Most recent reports are that the Ecuador/Peru quake was about 100 km deep (makes sense that it was felt so far away). Interestingly, both quakes were at similar latitudes.

OMG! does anyone know if it hit as far as Medellin.??.??

Gator says on Sep 26, 2005, 07:02:

Not Unusual... to feel quakes in certain areas of Colombia. Several months ago, on the way back on the Sunday train to Nemacon, felt one strong enough to make the train sway a little. Several eyebrows went up but that was about it. No damage or injuries in Colombia. In Bogotá the wife said, as her ears went forward like a cat's, movimiento telurico.

"Brevior Sltare Cum Deformibus Mulieribus Est Vita!" .

Hunter says on Sep 26, 2005, 09:40:

michelle8621 I never felt anything in Medellin, every few months I feel tremors here.

yeah i felt it last night, imagine, i live in the 18th floor, i was feeling pretty anxious last night, first i heard the story about the three soldiers killed by lightning, then i felt the earthquake for a reaaaally long time, then i saw these weird flashes of lightning outside my window ( from which by the way you get a spectacular view of the west and el campin), i kinda thought the end was near.

Earthquakes Yep, I've also felt one while in Colombia. Oddly enough the swaying/shaking worked its way into my dream (it was nightime), and by the time I awoke it was just subsiding. Quite the start tho to realise that it wasn't a dream!

Last night too . . . I was talking to my wife last night (in Bogota) at about 9pm and she said they were having one right then. Was this a second one?

DeltaDawg says on Sep 27, 2005, 08:34:

Cartagena My GF in Cartagena didn't mention any earthquakes when I talked to her yesterday. I will ask her today and see if it was felt that far north.

Hunter says on Sep 27, 2005, 12:15:

DeltaDawg I am yet to feel one in Ctg, they do happen, that last was about 7 years ago if I remember correctly, but Ctg is not on the fault lines as are the Cities in the mountains.
