Elmo, you can learn to drive a stick in the course of an afternoon.

Find yourself a big parking lot or a seldom-used road and just do it. You'll pop the clutch a few times, you'll jerk the car around a little, you'll stall out...but you'll learn quickly. All ya' gotta do is listen to the engine and coordinate the release of the clutch with pressing down (accelerating) on the gas pedal (and vice versa, i.e. engaging the clutch and letting off on the gas).

When you can shift without using the clutch and come to almost a complete stop without using the brakes, you'll know you've arrived.

I drove cars in Cuba. It does'nt get much worse. One time at the car rental the guy there told me in English "god bless you" and handed me the keys. I had a lot of close calls and was pulled over for moving violation several times. One time they held me at the airport until I paid all the tickets.
