Dress Code in Medellin Nightclubs/Bars

Dear All,

Hope everyone is getting along just fine :)

The nightclubs/bars dress codes in Cali & Bogota were pretty casual; jeans & long sleeves, etc although there's one place where dress slacks were preferred not required in some club in Cali. Surely there are places where they won't let you in with jeans (don't even mention sneakers in Colombia or anywhere else). Having said that, what is it like in Medellin? Get the impression is a rather well-dressed crowd, pretty sophisticated...would jeans give you the right key most times???! Or are khakis or dress slacks a better option?

TIA

Angel It's mostly casual but if you want to catch someone from the other gender you better dress up to set yourself off from the crowd. I don't want to date myself but I quit wearing jeans when I was 22 and certainly nothing less than a dark pair of slacks and long sleeved white shirt to a bar or lounge. I wear a suit w/o tie and the white shirt to the better places (like country clubs).

What are sneakers ? jajajaja

Khakis or dress slacks... along with a longsleeve shirt (it is a little cool in the evening) would gain you entrance just about anywhere. A student hangout you could drop down to jeans.

You can also wear a skirt, but then thy might not let you in, either.

Dress Code? I have never seen a dress code even requested anyplace in Medellin other than must have a shirt and no bare feet. I suppose it's understood that guys must wear their tighty whiteys inside of their jeans. lol.

Jeans, any shoe and a collard shirt is pretty much staple and many places I see many guys in simple t-shirts. I laugh as I get many compliments when I simply wear a black polyester "club" shirt.

I'd say 95%+ of people who go out wear jeans. When I've worn khakis, I almost feel out of place. Maybe if I go to four seasons I'll put the sportjacket on but that's the most expensive restaurant I can find in Medellin. Also, there's not the economic strength there to turn people away. Lines to get clubs are not out the door. Sure Parque Lleras is hot and trendy, but as a business owner look at all that cut-throat competition. No restaurant or bar there is going to turn down business.
