Don't forget Dia de Amor y Amistad (Colombia's equivalent to Valentines Day) is Saturday!

You don't want to be a lonely "NO NOOKIE" man on Saturday night now do you? Get something cute and simple for that special loved one! Take it from me, the Women in Colombia take this holiday very personally and seriously its almost comical.

You can always get the best flowers for the best prices near "funeral homes" or cemeteries.

A Western Union is a fan favorite! That seems to be their favorite regalo by far.. And there's more than enough gringos on HERE willing to comply! Aprovecha!

It'samazing how technology has changed. I guess Western Union changed from Telegrams to Money Wiring when FAX machines came out.

Maybe my investment in Yellow Pages.Com aint so bad. Some of thes companies are pretty innnovaive. I for one doubt that capitolism will collapse.

Yeah.. 500 extended family. And 18 (Mostly brothers) and sisters.

A lot of people say yellow pages won't last because why look up some places address there when you can google it? But like I said, the smart companies are innovative and will change their products as required.

How does that Western Union moneygram work? Where does the recipient pick up the money?
(I got a an email yesterday from a "family member" in bad economical situation and even if these people are crooks and haven't spoken to me in seven years they will have to be able to eat three meals a day, right?)

manINred says on Sep 19, 2009, 11:00:

The recipient picks up money at any Western Union or Moneygram agent location. All they need is the transaction/reference number, and they get the money. The sender pays a nominal fee to send the money, and of course the agency makesa cut on the exchange rate. It's fast, much faster than a wire transfer.

Desideria (Moderator) (Trustee board) says on Sep 19, 2009, 12:33:

Papi de Alejo says on Sep 19, 2009, 12:44:

If they don't have ID, sometimes, you can provide a question and answer to which they should know the answer. Or you can tell your family member what the question will be and what the answer should be.

manINred says on Sep 19, 2009, 12:50:

no worries :)

I think it would be best to bring ID, especially if the recipient party is in Colombia. Just a cedula or driver's licence. Whenever I went to collect money, my name and the transaction number sufficed.

Papi de Alejo says on Sep 19, 2009, 13:31:

Acutally in Colombia, the question will not work. Sometimes they will accept any ID other times they insist on a cedula.

Desi, they won't starve, Colombia isn't Africa and there is no official famine there, no has there been for years. Its just a ply for cerveza money or some such thing. I always tell my Novia when she starts wining about her sobrinas losing weight because they haven'tbeen eating cuz thier dad aint workin. I'll buy them a weeks worh of groceries but I ain't given NO money. They were surviving before the gringo got there, and they will survive after I am long gone.
