Don't Bother: Juan Pablo II Waterpark in Medellin

I suppose the less than ringing endorsements encountered elsewhere on PBH should have been warning enough, but yesterday the darling pregnant lady and I decided to venture across the great River Medellin to the Juan Pablo II waterpark in hopes of taking some full-term weight off her legs. Well. Previous descriptions of the spectacle as "surreal" were quite spot on. The municipio has managed to combine the worst of a battlefield medical evacuation in the jungles of Vietnam with an elementary school playground at recess, plus the added bonus of the most disappointing perros calientes west of the River Medellin. For those who wish to experience the anti-relaxing misery it currently costs 5,400 pesos to enter the park and the Belen 170 bus from the Aguacatala metro station can take you right to the doorstep. All must leave the pools by 4pm and the park by 4:30pm (on Fridays anyways). Can't believe they named a waterpark after a pope. Good luck.

I agree:

You should try Parque los Tamarindos instead:

Or, something much more relaxing... try Medellin Royal on the weekends... no crowds... no need to travel... free lunch:

Anything that only costs 5400 pesos would be surreal. Including el amuerzo ejecutivo.
