i came back to colombia with a whole bunch of great ideas.
i bought a video camera to make a short film.
i was going to get a english teaching job
or even get a job at the embassy,
find a new girlfriend
travel all around colombia.

its now been more than 2 months.
i went to barranquilla carnival, and nowhere else,
i have filmed jack shit with my camera,
i been sitting on my ass most days,
making use of all the things i bought,
Sofa, TV, HI FI, VCD's etc,
which means im running low on money,
living in suba comparter,
with my old girlfriend,
without a job,

damn.
someone motivate me! please.

Tell us again what you planned on doing when you went to Colombia?

I understand I did a similar thing on a trip about a year ago. I had all these grand plans and then just ended up hanging out with friends and novia. This behavior consisted mainly of sneaking into the nearby hotel pool, hanging out, eating pizza, and drinking beers. Embrace it.. don't fight it.. :)

i have been here 3 months and have same aspiration for filming but i have not yet found a good idea to do it on. I guess what i was intending to do was a documentary. Its just difficult to get an original idea.
one of the things i really miss is my computer which i used for editing and animation.
i suggest get a job first and then try to spend as much time outside of the house. Motivation will eventually come by.

Listen up Don:
Read some of your posts and you need to come to grips with life in Colombia and most of Latin and South America. You appear to be on the correct path and it is imperative you consider the following.

You have acquired the native condition I refer to as Mañana. Symptoms are a NEW awareness that anything requiring thought or planning becomes impossible to accomplish TODAY.

Let it HAPPEN,, do not fight it, adjust. Tranquilo needs to become a state of mind. Someone saying Tranquilo means you have work to do.

NEVER get mad, upset or overly excited (sports excluded). Life is NOT difficult especially if your basic needs can be met by rice, beans and Platanos.

Please try and recognize your symptoms. Experiencing an onset requires you immediately lay down and wait for these thoughts to go away. Yelling or loud speech is a no-no outside bars, parties, festivals, birthdays, street parties, concerts and similar functions, which includes every holiday known to man.

The following activities require NO planning and very little money. Why do you think they are so popular?
Drinking, Women, Dancing.
Not ONE foreigner lives or even visits where I stay and this is the NUMBER one thing the men do. There may not be a definable number 2.

Chasing women is NOT a Colombian custom. The thought of chasing women is totally foreign and requires a measure of planning. Unless of course you are very young, can’t afford a domestic and need someone to wash your underwear. Then a man is FORCED to plan.

Colombians can choose sitting in a bar with or without women hanging around. I’d say MORE than half the local bars have very few women. Don,, a man needs to rest.

You can go sit at a bar with women hanging around, drink, enjoy LOUD music have a good time and a female will appear basically because you have enough money to be there. The bar can be in astrada 1 to 6 your choice and pocket book. Dancing is of course the best way to meet women, taking a little more effort, but not much.

Winning a small lottery will get a chicken for the house plus a round of beers for the guys. Life is good.

This should help you make the final adjustment:
Never expect anything and you can never be disappointed.
You will be elated if you actually receive value for items purchased.
The word NOW may or may not mean sometime today.

Film idea Just walk down Sixth Avenue in Cali during a weekday with the camera on and pointed ahead of you. You can edit the video later to be either a comedy, erotic, or a psychedelic experience.

Quick, pack up our stuff and leave, tomorrow. Where? It doesn't matter. Just go. I finally left Medellin after a month of basically doing nothing and am in Manizales and it feels good to be in a new place.

Plan B If you have rich parents then getting kidnapped is always an option. You could improve your Spanish while testing out that Marxism 101 stuff that you used to spew around here. Certainly more exciting than hanging out in Suba.

I spent two months in El rodadero every year for 13 years. good-goddam but I never did anything while there. I swear, I declined invitations to dinner at peoples homes, why? It would cut into my f***ing off time. I just couldn´t give up those two hours once a week. I´m not joking. Just hangiong out with friends, talking about absolutely nothing, getting sun and dancing were the only things I did. Girls, fun, sun, why leave a several-block area when you got that? Whenever Igot bakc to NY I was really depressed, and the next year was yet trained once again to be productive, but 15 minutes in Santa Marta killed it off yet again.

Uh, OK, wanker is offensive, but let's keep it in the context of this thread, in which you have been highly offensive to Nicas, Ticas and Americans. Oh, and your life isn't their faults, either, wanker.

You're about as funny as a heart attack, until you try to talk tough.
Then you are funny. You're a wanker because you love to dish it out but can't take it.
