Kids Can Do Project: Victory in Colombia
Kids Take a virtual mission trip to Colombia using ten brief, fully-scripted lessons. Learn how drugs, gangs and violence are taking a toll on Colombia’s youth. Visit a neighborhood and meet the people by way of colorful photos and descriptive narratives. This Kids Can Do (and big people too!) project will challenge you and your students to pray for victory in Colombia. Money raised through this project will provide coach training, devotional materials, equipment and uniforms for a soccer ministry that reaches out to Colombian children and youth.
Save the street children of Colombia Now!!

Sounds like another money maker to me. You know sometimes I get tired of people funneling money to projects that make people feel good about themselves but help NO ONE. I suppose they think up how it is they can get people excited about something and then give money? It is a business. I have been here a pretty long time and in that time tried my best to help the people here. Giving money on the street is not one of the ways to do that.
If you really want to see the effects of drugs on the street take them to a part of just about any city in America. Here they could take a lesson on what a class system does to a populous and how it feels to live on the bottom of the ladder...
Want to help? How about helping people who are starving to death in barrios of Bogota? People to weak to get up and travel to the street you walk on and ask for your change. How about helping the little girls and boys of Colombia? the elderly? The Bible talks of who to help.... Not the gang ones but how about the little girls who get prostituted at 5 years old for 2,000 pesos. How about the ones who work all day and can not afford a decent pair of shoes on their feet because they have been sold into slave labor? How about the ones on the street that are rented to a handler for your change. They don't have a chance! You giving them money is why they are onb the street in the first place! Think about that!
How about connecting with people who do this kind of work and then make a difference rather than providing a "Camp Colombia" experience for a bunch of nieve rich kids?
I know why for the same reason that when I am helping these people every week I am alone or maybe with one other person who cares. Reason? There is no glory in it, there is no money in it and it takes time to build a relationship with people who have been traumatized beyond what you or me or most people can relate to. People just want the 30 second experience.
This is too bad because these people here have changed every part of my life, from how I view it to how I live it. From the ugly belly of the street you kind find the worst and the best. Mostly you find people lost and people who want to do for themselves, want to do the right thing just need a little help. From experience though you have got to get them off the street to help them. The street here eats kids alive. You also can not wait for them to hit the gang and help, you ahve got to save the ones willing to save themselves with some help.
You are helping gang kids? Man your lost! How do you think the kids feel that are studing very hard on barely enough food to survive to have a better future when your giving your help to the gangs? I know kids like this. I know kids like this that are doing it without a mother or a father or sisters or brothers and you know why? Because they are dead! These are the people you could help with your donations. But nope a Camp Colombia for rich kids to help kids who do not deserve your help. But yes helping them sure makes for a good soundbite, add. I have worked with gangs before, know more about them than I care to.
I am sure that you will take this and tell yourself that I don't care or that your mission is impossible to help those kids according to me and God Bless and God help Praise the Lord and send your money we can do it! Those gang kids are not lost! God loves them! bla bla bla bla bla
Look there are people beleiving in God praying to Him every nite on their knees for someone to care, they are not thieves they are not dealers they are not the kids that stab you for 10k pesos. They are basically good kids that need help maybe just to eat that day. You reap what you sow in this world. The Bible is all about that. So your pissing away money into the devils mouth when you could be doing some real good. You are rewarding the people who sow death, violence and all manner of crap and those sowing good but can not make it in this society you are doing nothing? A great lesson I think I will quite school and join a gang so I can get your table scraps.
You don't know me for anything but let me tell you I have earned the right to speak to you this way.

If you believe the Bible and that God is real, then believers in Colombia are the least of our worries.
Rather than attacking someone elses methods, why do you not develop your own? You have some great ideas!

David can people on this site not read? I am walking the talk, every day right here in Colombia and have done so long enough to know what I am talking about. Which is many more years than this person has. Since if they had and had a heart they would know better. I think they just want to make money like all the churches in Colombia, anywhere else for that matter. Make money and make themselves look good. Meanwhile doing real work I am alone more times than not. So I have earned the right to be the critique. Risked my life more than once being alone to help those worth helping, I don't like that but that is how it is. Gang kids? They do not fit in that catagory of who needs the help. More likely while I am in their barrio helping a kid with some protein to work his brain that he wants to work in his studies one of her gang kids is gonna stab me and rob me, I die from the infection and no one helps the studing kid. He joins the gangs..... Get it? If not please wake up and not support this person.
So David I don't need a lecture from someone that has not piad their dues in Colombia.
Furthermore I tried to be ananymous on this site. Impossible. I had very good reasons for it so all you smart people out there that like to play detective. You know who I am. So frickin what? I wish I could speak the truth and not have the real world consequences this site brings to me so beleive me this will be a rare occassion. It had to be put rite. If that bothers some of you well? booo frickin hoooo hooo.
Oh and every week when I am alone with the kids I expect to be alone on my side of this issue. Have fun swimming in your ignorance and have a nice day!
PS Fully scripted lessons. Oh boy! they are gonna help with a script? They speak no Spanish? What they are going to do is bob around on the street like some urban buoy's for a couple weeks. Then go back to the US the hero and the brave soul for risking their lives in Colombia for Jesus! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen it for 20 years working this street or that. The street is no place to help. Get them off the street then you can help, then they have a chance. Do that with the money. the right kids could use the help.
