PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post |
My mom, God bless her soul, has left behind 14 industrial sewing machines...the ones that are used in factories making clothes, etc. In addition, we have countless threads and an enormous stock of materials (everything from cotton, linen to vinyl and leather). I've had no luck getting rid of it here in Canada. So I was told to send it to a foreign country. Well, Colombia immediately came to mind. So can anyone send me any contact info as to who I can donate all this stuff to? Thanks in advance for any leads.

NataliaV says on Jul 19, 2007, 09:36: My mom too has four industrial sewing machines and I cannot give them away here in the US. No one wants them. We even tried to give them to a shop. I did search the internet awhile back and found one organization that took them, but cannot think of the name. I would try that and see if you can find it. We do not want to pay for shipping as these things are very heavy. Good luck, we may end up giving them to Purple Heart or Am-Vets if they will take them.

analyzethis1 says on Jul 19, 2007, 09:51: Well, I was hoping that whoever wanted it would pay for the shipping. I imagine it would be very costly for me to incur the shipping charges. But, then again, I'm desperate to get rid of it all. The longer it sits around, the more it depreciates. My Fiance is a professional seamstress/Artist (she already has three machines) and resides in Soacha. I will speak to her tonight about this. Maybe she knows of a

analyzethis1 says on Jul 19, 2007, 10:46: Thanks DavidM. I will google the other countries and get some contacts but I would prefer to send all these things through people I can trust and, hopefully, the recipients will utilize these machines for their livelihood. Nevertheless, I'm sure my mom will be watching over her prize possessions wherever they end up in the world. However, I am close friends with a board member who leads the efforts in the Washington, D.C. office of Colombia Progresa. I will stand behind this organization.
