Don King visits Medellin for WBA Annual Convention

'Don' King ya está en Medellín para la Convención Anual de la AMB

El estadounidense, famoso por su peinado y su personalidad, hizo su entrada triunfal a las 8:45 p.m. al salón en donde la AMB premiaba a esa hora a los mejores boxeadores del año.


Vestido de blanco, con flores hawaianas en su cuello y ondeando en su mano derecha las banderas de Estados Unidos y la de Colombia, y sosteniendo un puro en su mano izquierda, 'Don' King se abrió paso entre los asistentes a la velada que lo recibieron con nutridos aplausos.

El promotor que tuvo entre sus boxeadores a Muhammad Ali y a Mike Tyson, se sentó al lado de Gilberto Mendoza, presidente de la AMB, y de Francisco Piña, organizador de la Convención.

Antes, se fundió en un fuerte abrazo con el colombiano Miguel 'Happy' Lora, ex campeón mundial gallo, quien también perteneció a su cuerda de púgiles.

También tuvo palabras de reconocimiento para Carlos 'Pibe' Valderrama, quien fue homenajeado anoche por las autoridades deportivas de la AMB.

"¡Valderrama, Valderrama, el número uno de Colombia!", le dijo en español al ex futbolista samario, ondeando con más fuerza la bandera del país.

En la tarde, también llegó al Dann Carlton el panameño Roberto 'Mano de Piedra' Durán.

En la mañana de este martes, el mexicano Ricardo 'Finito' López, uno de los mejores boxeadores de todos los tiempos, se ganó el aplauso general con una disertación sobre cómo llegó a la cima.

"No hay enemigo más grande que uno mismo", expresó López, que se retiró invicto como profesional, con 51 triunfos y un empate, con 26 peleas de campeonatos mundiales (25 éxitos y un empate).

La Convención tendrá este miércoles en la mañana la charla sobre superación personal del ex campeón mundial Fidel Bassa, de Colombia.
