Domestic help information

What is the approximate monthly cost of a full time domestic employee in Cali? I would imagine full time to be five days a week or whatever the norm is.

What are the responsibilities of the employer to the employee? In addition to any legal responsibilities, what would be the moral considerations?

I know that in Costa Rica, a bonus is paid in December equal to one months pay or portion thereof based on length of employment.

Thanks,

Woody

Thanks for the information. Gator, if I may ask, how much more than the minimum wage do you pay?

We just want to do the right thing - but we don't want to get chumped either.

I spent some time sniffing around www.gobiernoenlinea.gov.co. However my ability to read Spanish is limited at this time.

Lets see the minimum wage for 2007 is right around $435.000 pesos a month(say $200 USD)
We are paying about $544.000 ($250 USD). Mrs Gator, who, God bless her, has a very soft heart so she is always adding pesos for "un regalo para las pequeñas muñecas."
