I was curious about what the law says if attacked by a dog in colombia. For example in the u.s. If I'm attacked by a dog then I have every right to kill that dog in order to stop the attack. Is it the same in colombia?
Also in the u.s. dog owners are responsible for their dog if it attacks or bites a person. Is that also true in colombia?

Bill Turley says on Mar 25, 2008, 09:34: I had the misfortune that My dog was walking with some friends on our road.. A man who was afraid of dogs came up the other way. I suggested that he wait with me for a few minutes. He declined, picked up some stones and went up towards Wrinkles. My "little" baby does not accept aggresion at all. Zero tolerence. When the other person started to throw the stones Wrink caught his hand and bit his wrist. Sort of a preemptive strike. Mr. Bill Somondoco |

mranderson says on Mar 25, 2008, 10:07: I was wondering because yesterday I was on a nature hike with some friends and my wife when 3 dogs surrounded me and my wife on the verge of attack. The owner was running after the dogs yelling for them to stop so I just stood there real stil with my wife while the man was trying to get his dogs under control. Still, one of the dogs managed a bite at my wife's leg. It didn't cut her but ripped her pants open.

mranderson says on Mar 25, 2008, 10:18: That's a good idea morphus. I also read somewhere that it's very hard to hit a dog with pepper spray and it usually makes the dog madder. But it's worth a shot right?

mranderson says on Mar 25, 2008, 10:38: vic- yea a stick is a good idea too. In fact my friend told me I should grab one in case of dogs but I honestly couldn't find one anywhere. The forest was picked clean. The only thing I could find were twigs or branches that were just too big to carry. I didn't think it was really that much of a threat since none of my friends grabbed any sticks either.

Bill Turley says on Mar 25, 2008, 11:31: If you ever see a mature Bull Mastiff that is upset with you, forget a stick, forget pepper spray, a machete would leave an injury to him but provoke an all out attack ( Bad News). My baby can ignore pain. I have seen him jump through a 3 strand electric fence, willing to take the shock in order to get to the other side. With a stick he would grab it and either take it away from you, throw you to the ground or crunch it in two. Remember this baby is 200 lb all muscle, he can clear 5 ft if he tries to. However he loves people, try to make friends and he will be your buddy. Mr. Bill Somondoco |

However, they will not do so until my novia gets her cedula. She lost it and got a replacement contraseña maybe 5 months ago. Colombia is in no hurry to get the cedula done. And WTF does she need the cedula anyway?

Bill Turley says on Mar 26, 2008, 08:11: An additional comment from Somondoco on this topic. The comment about Bull Mastiffs eating a lot, not true. My baby eats about 14 kilos a month, with food available all the time. Extreamly intellegent is no joke. He listens to conversations between my wife and I and reacts to them. If I as her if she is ready, Wrinkles thinks we are ready to GO and he is. Another word he reacts to is coming he runs to look and see who is coming Mr. Bill Somondoco |
