Citibank, Chase, almost any AMEX Office or Travelex Worldwide Money offices.

Since Miami is our usual first stop we always use Abbot Foreign Money Exchange, down town on NE 1st St, I give this place an unreserved recommendation.

TIP ALWAYS call ahead and make sure they have pesos on hand.

Unless you want to replay the love scene from "Deliverance" avoid the airport exchanges.

Thanks Gator. One of my clients will be arriving next month from N.Y. and I advised him that he should stock up on plenty of pesos now because they expect the peso to keep dropping.

Go to Roosevelt Avenue in Queens (7 train) to the Colombian neighborhood. Plenty places there.

what type of rates to the places along Roosevelt Ave give? FWIW, I live in Queens and have 101k pesos leftover from my last trip (I know, it's not much). I'll sell these for whatever the spot rate of the day is if you're interested.

i'm a little unclear as to why someone would want to buy pesos in n.y.? when they get off the plane, whereever in colombia, just go to the atm and take out money...you get pesos. i don't care how much the peso changes vis a vis the dollar, unless we're talking tens of thousands of dollars, why go through the hassle of hedging ones exchanges? pray tell me.

IF you need pesos for Colombia just hi tthe ATM when you arrive at the airport.

Smile if you are a thinker!

manINred says on Sep 28, 2007, 13:03:

The best rate you'll get is assuredly at the ATM machines. Don't waste money by going through travel agents or currency exchange places, especially not the ones at the airport.

arthur brode says on Sep 28, 2007, 14:12:

but wouldnt it be wise to buy pesos now if you dont plan on traveling to Colombia soon?

So you want to buy pesos now because you think the US dollar is going to buy even less of them in the future? Sounds like currency speculation.
