Does anyone know of a directory of Catholic churches in Colombia?

We need to get baptismal certificates for my wife and I from the churches in Colombia where we were baptized. Mine was in Bogota and my wife in Florencia, Caqueta.

Here's where I found mine in Bogotá: http://www.arquibogota.org.co/

You can also try these:

I couldn't find anything for Florencia, Caquetá. That's a tough one.

Diana,

I was actually going to PM you on VJ with the same question.
Even the Diocis of Florencia doesn't have a list on their site and of course they never answer the phone.

Thanks for the Bogota info.

In Both places you would apply to the Archdiocese in Bogota,Carrera 7 # 10-20, e-mailsist-arq at colomsat.net.co;and the Archdiocese in Caqueta(Mrs. Gator thinks this has been transfered to Cali). http://www.arquidiocesisdecali.org.co/. Curia Arzobispal, Carrera 4 N. 7-17, Apartado 8924, Cali, Colombia

When I called the arch-diocese in Bogota, they told me to call the church directly. Typical Colombian pass the buck. There is a diocese in Florencia. They don't answer the phone, but I sent them an email and keep calling.

The embassy should not require a baptismal certificate for a visa interview. What happens if you aren't Catholic? What if the little shit church in some small town can't find it? This is the only document that we need that is proving to be a pain to acquire.

CG, just forge it.... =)

I mean sure it's probably a mortal sin, but so is the run around they give you....

You should be able to find some con-artist in Houston to help you do this... or a real creative artist...

It seems the only church listed in the yellow pages is:

PARROQUIA CORAZÓN INMACULADO DE MARÿA
Cl 27 10-67 Torasso
Colombia - Caquetá, Florencia
Phones : (57) (8) 4352447

Of course, there are 3 pages in Bogotá, I can e-mail them, if that is helpful

Gator says on Jan 8, 2008, 15:04:

For what it's worth, both out marriage record, the records I provided as well as Mrs. Gator's required paper work is on file in Cali. The ORIGINAL certifications are on file where the ceremonies took place. Like my "stuff"is on file at St. Anthony in Ft Lauderdale and Mrs. Gator is on file at the church in Cartago Valle. Apparently the church where you were baptized maintains the records.

I saw that same listing, but I can't imagine there is only one church. If anyone is familiar with Florencia, the church in question is in barrio "Juan 23".

sloopskipper says on Jan 8, 2008, 15:36:

There may be more, but without yellow pages listings.

ColombianoGringo says on Jan 8, 2008, 15:39:

That paginas amarillas site is not very comprehensive. It isn't run by the phone companies and is neither an official directory, nor particularly useful. Sometimes, local sites will have a white pages listing for a city or area such as huila.com.

sloopskipper says on Jan 8, 2008, 17:10:

It is the online listing offered by the telephone companies where I lived in Puerto Rico (Verizon & Puerto Rico Telephone Company), and here in Panamá (Cable & Wireless). I find it much more up to date than any paper phone books, but MAYBE not in Colombia.

If they don't subscribe to a yellow pages listing, they will probably not be listed.

I TRIED to help you.

Good luck!

The embassy does have a requirement in their instructions for baptismal certificates but when we went for the interview, they didn't want any of them. The woman went through all our documents keeping what was necessary and handed those back to us. So I wouldn't sweat it if I were you.

Mononoke28 says on Jan 9, 2008, 09:18:

Colombianogringo, you do need this document for the interview at the embassy. The mean old lady who goes over all the documents asks for it. The people who are not Catholic or were never baptized can get some kind of form at a notaría explaining why they don't have it. You can also find this info in the Colombian Club thread on VJ. I know Buck used it as well as OskaryAndrea. That may be your last option if you can't get a hold of your wife's church in Florencia.

Sloop. Don't take it personally. It's not like you built the site. I was simply stating that the site is not very complete for Colombia. Could people be any more sensitive and defensive around here?

JoseRamone says on Jan 9, 2008, 13:04:

Does anybody have a directory for Catholic churches in Colombia? How about Italy? Spain? Greece? When everywhere you look, there's another church? LOL!

john_stark says on Jan 9, 2008, 19:38:

The same mean old lady handed ours back to us and said that she didn't need the baptismal certificates. It must depend on which side of the bed she gets up on.

ColombianoGringo says on Jan 17, 2008, 08:28:

Well, we finally managed to contact the church in Florencia. My wife just spoke with them and they stated that she had to come in person or send someone. They told her to come to the church and if the priest was around, they would give it to her, or else she would have to wait until at least the next day. They refused to do it by mail.

This is just the kind of bullshit that pisses me off in Colombia. Now, she has to go to this shit stain of a town in a very dangerous part of Colombia and wait around for some priest to show up. I think it is absolute bullshit that the US embassy even asks for a religious document to begin with.

I am trying to see if I can find a messenger service in Florencia to take care of this for us. If anyone has any ideas or knows that area, please let me know.

Send some money to the church and everthing is going to be ready in a sec... believe me.
