Does anyone have any information concerning a school called ISSO?

My son would like to go to Colombia and teach English. There is a school in Bogota names ISSO. It offers the TEFL course for prospective English teachers. Does anyone have any information about this school? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Nicholas

To be eligible for a student´s visa, you must enroll in an accredited institution in Colombia by the Colombian Ministry of Education. You will need, among other things from the institution, recent bank statements (or parents), pictures, Gov. application and a fee.

The program must be 10 hours a week. ISSO- International Student´s Service Org. offers academic programs such as Spanish for Life and TEFL Certification so that you can apply for a student´s visa.Once your visa has been approved you can get a Colombian Identification which will allow you to open a bank account with any local bank among other things.

We are an internationally and nationally accredited institution and we can assist you in the process.

Please visit our website at www.estudiosexterior.com or e mail at tefl at estudiosexterior.com. We have centers n Cali, Bogota, Medellin and Barranquilla. We can also offer one to one courses at your place of stay in Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Santa Marta, and Popayan.

Our contact information is ISSO Cali 57-2-680-2001. ISSO Bogota 57-1-218-1679.

Gator! I have been to Colombia 3 times, and Venezuela 3 times....I may, in the future, move to eitehr country (well depending on what happens in Venezuela). I, as well as my son, have teaching experience. My son is 23 and I am the ripe old age of 50. If I could make decent money in Colombia, I would consider going there as well. However, from what I have read, a teacher there would only make around $500-$700 US a month...not a heck of a lot of money.

That is for a public school teaching "regular" high school type course. Both of you get certified in
in TESL. If you are a certified teacher with experience finding work would be much easier. Work on building a strong CV with documentation.

yes i know this school and who you need to contact or speak to, i have already enquired about this myself, my friend.

the course lasts four weeks and is a cambridge certified (CELTA) place to go and do this course to be able to get work elsewhere in colombia or latin america more effectively and easy...it is very intense course and can be done over 5 weeks also and i know there is only two schools in central america that offer this internationally recognised qualification...the course is only available in bogota 3-4 times a year maybe....it costs maybe 1300 US i think plus he will need to pay for accomodation....the school is also something to do with the british council/consultate i seem to recall.

after that, he can go and teach just about anywhere, i know there are places around barranquilla on the north coast, a good school there, a few in Cali which are worthwhile, to go and look for work afterwards, the ISSO should help him secure a position afterwards also.

i am going to be doing this myself later this year but i may take the same course here in london cos its cheaper..

if you want to send me a private message i can get you the professor guy email address who you can contact for more exact information....yes the pay may only be 500-700 us per month but you do not need too much to live on remember.....he would earn maybe up to 2000 euros doing the teaching in spain.

hope this helps
