Do Colombians Know Anything About Hindus??

Hola,

I have read postings on this site and have seen people talking about different races and religions, even muslims who i am sure are so rare in Colombia. (Read about soem muslim connection with Shakira). I am wondering if colombians know anything about hindus, those who reside in India and Nepal. What do Colombians think about Hindus and Asians from India and Nepal. Are they easily accepted in the Colombian society or looked down upon? Are there any hindus living in Colombia? If yes, do they feel a discrimination on the basis of their skin colour? I would look forward to your views!

I think you would find a lot of people here eager to find out more about those other people, cultures, etc. but you probably won´t find too many who already know about them.

in poor neighborhoods in barranquilla you will find many modefoques that look hindu, icluding me. many of us are very dark. i've been confused many times for a guy from pakistan, india, etc. all i need is to own a newstand and i'm set. to this day, the most beautiful girl i've seen was from india. she was tall, slender with light coffee eyes, tan and very shiny jet black hair. she was wearing a sari and seem very traditional. i love and respect that!

I'll get there, when I get there!

There is this music channel on DISH called International Music Feed and they sometimes show music videos from India. Those chicks are smoking! Damm, we've got all these Indian contractors here at work but none of the chicks look like them. I think they're holding out on us. My wife was watching the videos and she thought the women looked Colombian. Damm, those videos are good.

UC, Sometimes I watch a program call "desi" from south Asia and those broads Singers/actress are beautiful. I was watching 60 minutes, they did a segment titled “the Worlds most beautiful woman?” it featured a girl from Inda, Aishwarya Rai, tanned with bright big green eyes, x-rated lips(if ya know what I mean) and to me, she has to be the most beautiful broad walking this planet but that first name gotta go. Imagine trying to get into her pants and having to repeat that name over and over, your damn tongue will turn into a knot.

Well... I suppose since there is a sizeable Krishna community in Colombia there must be at least a few people who know of Hindu culture. Two of my wife's cousins moved from Bogotá to Florida to a Krishna community where a good 1/4 of the people are Colombian. They have since moved to India to better educate their children.

I am with Utopia, the women in those bhangra videos are hotties, I had to go out and purchase a couple of DVDs! I also happen to like the music and the culture so it wasn't just to look at the women. ;-)

Colombia word confusion. What is Colombian Spanish for Indian (East Indian)? I don't think it is Indio becuase all the Colombians I know refer to Indians as Hindues.

We have some Indian friends from Punjab who are Sikh and my mother still calls then Hindues in Spanish.

Aishwarya Rai! That chick is the biggest star in India. There is a DVD that just came out called "Bride and Prejudice" in which she stars. It's an English flick. They also have an interview with her as well on the DVD. She is damm hot. There are several other chicks in the flick who are smokin' too. How come we never see these Indian chicks here? They're holding out on us!!!!

One thing about those traditional south Asian broads they only marry their kind and followed their religion to the book. I make a lousy Hindu, I only eat meat. if I visit her village and see a cow walking in the middle of the street at night and nobody is around I’m gonna machete the hell outta that modefoque and eat it, and I don’t care if I’m reincarnated as a cockroach.

In spanish, the correct way to call people from India is 'indios', naturally. It's just out of ignorance that many of my people refer to them as "hindues". Hindu is a religion, which not everyone from India follows.

Hehe! you are right elmodefoque..you must have seen a typical Indian beauty in a sari..that is the traditional dress there and very different from what muslims wear..the sari is a typical Indian dress, some call it one of the most sensuous piece of clothing.
And many members have talked about Aishwarya Rai..so that means she is popular not only in India and the english speaking nations but also in non-english speaking nations like Colombia..good for her..that chick is surely going places and she is a nice blend of Indian and western beauty...most of the indians are darker than Aishwarya, with a brownish skin tone..you may call it a tanned look..a little dark but not black..is that colour hot in Colombia or men prefer the local colour tone? yes, its true sometimes there is a skin colour overlap between Indians and latin americans..I really wonder, do Indians and Colombians share anything in common, except, their skin colour maybe, sometimes..

Dove, one thing we, in the Colombian northern Caribbean coast share with Indians is the love for spicy food. In Bogotá or cachaco territory is a different story, their food gotta be bland, tasteless. I went to eat at an Indian restaurant in the east village, NYC, it was awesome! but man, my butt hole was on fire, shitting blood and burping curry for a week, damn that was super spicy. But I was back the following week. One thing we don’t share, well me, as a full fledge costeño, is Indians work ethics. I’ll be honest with you; I come from a long line of lazy modefoques. I never liked working and to this moment, after over 20 years of doing it, I still hate every second of it and dread the moment I have to get up, but tell me that we need to be up at 4am to go fishing, I’ll be the first modefoque ready.

I'll get there, when I get there!

Hindustan The other day I read that Hindu is of Persian origin and refers to the country of India. The word India I believe is the hellenized or westernized form of the Persian Hind. India is called Hindustan in some countries, but maybe the original poster can let us know how the indians themselves refer to thier country.

Dove don't many younger Indian women choose to wear a Salwar Kameez instead of a Sari? I find both to be extremely nice fashions, very becoming on a lady with a nice figure. My wife has a number of Salwar Kameez and they look extremely sexy on her. I purchased one of them in Paris for her and the others were purchased in the UK.

Salwar kameez in colombia Yes Kernow62, many younger indian women prefer to wear salwar kameez, its just so much more convenient than a sari. Your wife got a salwar kameez? great! I wonder if anybody has even seen a woman in Colombia wearing that..hehehe!! its not so common outside India, people tend to stare at a woman wearing a sari or salwar kameez outside India..but yes, Tony Blair's wife seems to have developed an interest in the Indian dreses, so i guess they are rocking these days!but as far as the modern indian women are concerned, they are wearing less of indian dresses and more of pants, skirts and other western dresses. but if you were a fashion designer, there is so much you could make out of a salwar kammez..maybe that will dictate the fashion scene in times to come..jaja!

Ok I know a lot about them I am from India and as ColX pointed out - I am not a Hindu (that's the religion of 85% of the citizens.) Most women wear Saris - most girls wear salwaar kameez (or jeans and tops.) Most men wear pants and shirts and depending on the part of the country - some men also wear salwar kameez. Kameez of course is the same as Camisa. Most Indians (I am talking of city living) do eat meat but its illegal to butcher a cow or sell beef - except for in 5 star hotels and muslim neighborhoods. Most Indians are Hindu followed by muslims then sikhs and then a splattering of christians etc.
Aishwarya - Hey Modfoq - you can call her 'Ash' as you do her; that's her short name in Bollywood. Yes India produces more movies in a year than any country in the world and they are a mixture of drama, music, dancing etc. etc. - I enjoy watching them too. SRK doesn't wear Salwar kameez - he lived in and was educated in New Delhi (actually he was a classmate of one of my nephews)- so being a city lad he wears pants and shirts. Most Indian food can be spicy - I make mine with about a tenth of what most Indians make their food with! And Indians are everywhere including just over a billion in India! Any questions?

an interesting observation.. In Lima, Peru i visited their downtown central commerical(mall) where they sell inexpensive stuff. Now, Chinese goods(clothes, toyes, etc.,) DOMINATED the shop aisle-no suprise. Chinese goods dominate shopes aisle in the US too. BUT what struck me as odd, was seeing that AFTER the chinese goods, Indian goods were creeping up(long way to go). I actually got several cool indian shirts in vibrant colors for pretty cheap. Several stores were selling stuff like men/women clothes and incenses and other items.

I don't know about COL, but when i get to COL next month, i'll check it out.
