However, since he is in New York, I wonder how much of a sense of what it's like on the ground he has (not claiming to have a great one myself). Here in Medellin at least, it doesn't feel like there is any sort of popular uprising against Uribe, far from it. It is quite interesting to see them go after DMG when they seemingly haven't defrauded any of their investors. They seem to be going after them for laundering drug money, but who isn't dealing with drug money down here?

The worst unrest appears to be in Southern Colombia, particularly in Putumayo, Nariño and Huila departments. I have spoken with many people in these areas and there have been a lot of protests and general upheaval. Work stoppages have been sporadically called in various cities an towns and curfews have been implemented in a lot of areas.

My brother in law works in La Hormiga. Putumayo which is the town where Murcia started DMG. The people there are extremely pissed off and the whole place is very tense. A large portion of the populace in that area had been living off DMG and other pyramids and they are very upset that their gravy train has come to a stop.

I can't imagine how DMG managed to do everything they did. I know some people that had been making money off DMG for a while. In addition to the outrageous returns, they also gave out all kinds of merchandise. Apparently, if you deposited over certain amounts, you could go to certain stores and get everything from appliances to even cars in some cases. Honestly, the whole thing makes no sense.
