You're best bet would be to talk to the Colombian embassy or Consulate near you. You may need to send money to the ex for a lawyer.

By the way, if she can't wait for you, she doesn't deserve you... better you found this out now.

Good luck,

Dave

Daver is absolutely right. I know it's rough but you are better off finding this out now. I would get divorced in Colombia if I were you - a lot cheaper.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

A friend of mine sent his wife back to Colombia after a month and divorced with out her presence in the states. His US divorce is completely legal in the US but as he was married in Colombia it is not recognized there. In fact he is now, some years later going to use his status as marriied to a Colombian to get a visa to live in Colombia. How about them apples?

Hello, I was in the same boat..as you my freind Married my wife in Medellin, she could not wait...caught her cheating while I was working in another country...so be it...and what is so funny..her visa just got approved by BCIS this month...but I canceled that to....first, as my lawyer instructed me...cancel your visa petitions, by writing a letter stating that you want them canceled and no more info is necessary....then what i did, I hired a colombiana lawyer...which a friend of mine RECOMMENDED::: don{t do it own your own or you will get ripped...It cost me $4,500,000 pesos..expensive but worth it...she is a top lawyer..and she is going to do a liquidation procedure in order that my wife cannot collect my plata...and for me I make decent money...

it takes 4 months to divorce is she agrees, if she does not then it will take up to 2 years...but you as an american really do not have to do nothing...you can always marry through a fiance visa if you marry another......but that is your choice my friend...I just want to erase everything , the history and move on...so that someday if I do meet the right chica...I can marry her in colombia or america...I was happy that I did do the K3 visa route which takes more time...than the fiance visa....this really put me and my x wife to the test of love...in our case her love died away over time...Good luck my friend...
