Difficulty with cell phone calls

I was wondering if anyone else has been having this problem lately.

Over the past few weeks, every time I try to call my wife's cell phone, it has been dead on the line. No ringing, no voice recording advising that the phone is shut off nothing.

I have no problem with land line calls, but her cell phone never seems to pick up. Is this common?

Not common for me. All my girls in Colombia always answer the cell phone. They don't pay for months but always get incoming calls.

I believe it is the long distance service that is the problem I occasionally get that problem (she uses "Hola"), but I believe it is the long distance service that is the problem. Calls to cell phones are more expensive for your long distance carrier than calls made to land-lines.

Strange Problem No, I've been phoning my doll couple times a week on her cellphone from my computer using SKYPE out credits and its clear, cheap and no problems. Maybe its the city you're calling. My doll lives in Barranquilla and there never seems to be a problem with getting through unless I call her using one of those cheap 1 cent a minute calling cards. But if I call from my computer using Skype or one of the more expensive calling cards, it always works.

By the way, do the folks in Colombia have to pay for incoming calls to their cellphones from international like we have to pay here in North America or do they only pay for calls that they make?

Like morphus said In Colombia one does NOT have to pay for incoming calls. That is also why calling cells in Colombia is more expensive than calling fixed lines.

Mountains I have always had problems calling a friend in Guarne near Medellin's Rio Negro Airport.

You should be able.. ...to get through to something regardless. A voice mailbox, a busy, a "this number is unavailable or no longer in service" message.

Can you send text messages? OLA has a web site from which you can send text messages to a phone. I'm sure the other carriers offer this as well if you rummage around on their web sites.
