Different Areas within Bogota...

I have heard mixed reviews about staying in either the La Candelaria or Zona Rosa area. I would like to hear everyone's opinion on both places. I will be w/ three other guys, money isn't a concern - we like to party - hang out during the day - hang out late at night. Restaraunts and bars close bye and within walking distance, safety of course is an issue. Cheers!

Zona Rosa Based on what you appear to be interested in, it's not even a choice.

Plus, the Parque 93 area is a 10 min walk north, or 3 min cab ride. Both areas are upscale, well-patrolled environments. Plenty of bars/restaurants in both.

So, if you were going trying to locate a hotel in the price range of around $100.00USD a night, what would be a good recommendation? Also, dangerous to walk late night around Zona Rosa? Or taxi's everywhere?

I know is better safe than sorry That it is true, you all four tall strong guys need to be on your toes, jiji, give me a break!

If all of you don't feel safe in Zona Rosa or La Candelaria at any given time then buy a dog or hire some bodyguards.

I'll recommend Suites Real 85. (You asked for a hotel recommendation.) Walking distance to evreything in the Zona Rosa. About $65 US per night for a 2 room suite. Clean, excellent service, free WiFi, hot water (for a few minutes). Has kitchenette and a dirt cheap mini bar.

I hung out in the Candelaria barrio quite a bit. I never felt unsafe. But, I was never out walking about after around 10pm. So who knows after that? But, the hours I was walking around, it was very safe. It is a wierd mixture of hippy types, students, families, and professionals. My wife lived and grew up in that area. She says that it IS a little dangerous at night. So, like the guys above said: Maybe check out Candelaria during the day, and then party and crash in or near Zona Rosa at night.

If i were you Id go for the Dann Carlton Hotel, or some where closer to the Parque93 as opposed to Zona Rosa. Zona Rosa is ugly, full of underage drunk loud obnoxious kids (except for la T)...Parque 93 is much mre upscale and eventhough there are tons of clubs around the park area, it still has a residential feeling and it is waaaaaay cleaner.

Agree with Cerealkiller Zona Rosa is full of the very young. There are other areas where you find the more "sophisticated" young professional types.

I know that sounds snobbish but don't know a more delicate way to put it. In any case it depends on what you want.

And really... what we are looking for is an area where we can feel comfortable, getting around here and there - walking to get some coffee in the morning, a bite to eat, etc. We are aged 28-30, not to old and not to young. But there will be times where we will be drinking, I imagine that. We will only be in Bogota for 4-days, and I would like for them to be comfortable. I have been to Argentina a couple of times, so I wonder the comparisons between candelaria w/ palermo and the zona rosa with recoleta? Two different places I know. Thanks again all! Any good restaurants worth mentioning?

And no Aztec, your post doesn't sound snobbish at all. Thanks!
