This link is to a book review in NYT about the translation of Laura Restrepo's book, Delirium:

It seems like a mixed review, I haven't read the book, so I can't pass judgment on it. But I do recall some literary threads a few weeks back, so thought I would share.
By the way, the book is set in the 1980's, in the bad old days of Escobar semi-rule. The Colombia bashers might say, see, it really was bad. The Colombia Pollyana crowd might say see, people only focus on the bad. It made me think that while neither position may be 100% correct, Colombia has a real issue with this. In order to grow and prosper, she has to confront her past. But at the same time, she must look forward and "own" a new identity as a better place. I guess it is along the lines of you can't forget your past, but can't become trapped there, either. I am gonna go buy the book and see if it is any good.
