Degree grades required for teaching

HI all,

I was just interested to know if the grades that I have received throughout my degree (Business) will have any affect on getting a job teaching English? I am hoping to get a job teaching in a university and just wanted to know if any of you that have done that were required to send your transcript or show it at any time?

My marks aren't completely terrible, but I am a bit of a slacker I admit!

Any comments are appreciated!

Thanks, Em....15 weeks to go

teaching english Centro Colombo Americano in Medellin, the largest most recognized english language teahing school in Medellin seem to prefer teacher with degrees in language, litterature or humatities. (according to their website http://www.colomboworld.com/TeacherApplication.htm#us )

However, I would think that you may get a job in a business school like EAFIT. But as far as I know, it's not easy to get such a teaching job ( in a uni or recognized school) without formal teaching qualifications (a degree + a TEFL course or Ba.Ed or Ma.Ed)
Whether your grades matters or not in Colombia is probably dependent on the actual people taking the decision on the place you are applying. some place it's very important to have good grades, other places it is of lesser importance, just like at home, right?

True I am doing the TEFL course at the moment, so by January I will have my degree and the TEFL certificate, which is why I was hoping for a job in a university.

Really, I'd be happy just as long as I have a job and can earn a reasonable amount of money.

Thanks, Em

Teaching English From people I meet/talk w/ on my last trip. Non-University positions will get you between 1-2 million peso/month, the wide range is primary due to hrs. The more hrs you get, the more you get paid. Tutoring on the side is the norm and will get you additional money, your TEFL(CELTA?) will be icing on the cake. I still wonder why english teaching jobs in Vietnam pays $1500-2000 USD/mo for 25-30hrs/wk while in COL it's half of that. And COL is a more developed country than VN. Most of Latin America pays around the same as COL so maybe it's a region thing.

Different pay rates From what I understand I think it is because the government contributes towards programs in vietnam, as they are more likely to increase trade and tourism if there are more people speaking English.

They are really trying to push that at the moment as Australians and I'm sure other Europeans, Americans etc start being more interested in travelling there.
