Daydreaming?

Anyone else out there like me stuck in a sweaty office (well, library) dreaming of Colombia? Just bought a flat in Cartagena and can't wait to get there......

larumberainglesa How long until you get to Cartagena ? I also bought a condo in Cartagena and am furiously selling, giving away, all the things I will not need in Colombia. Preparing for the change of a lifetime !
I wish it were next month, however I am enjoying my remaining days in Philadelphia with my friends and family who most say they will come and visit. Did you buy to live for good or vacation ? Dreams are what make the future, Buena Suerte.....

Manolo Have to wait 2 years before we can sell our flat in the UK (it was bought from the government at a discounted price and you can't sell it for 3 years - 1 down, 2 to go....). We could rent it then go but we have some debts here. Just knowing it's there though keeps me going. Husband about to jack in his job though (NO MAS MIERDA! dice) so might be sooner that we had planned....Planning to rent out and go there for 2 weeks in Dec. Are you of retiring age or younger? Only prob I have is few people will visit us as it's too expensive from UK and they are too scared most of them as well. As a good friend said this week - I admire you - you follow your dreams. Poca a poco, no?

Drags, we are in Essex. Do you go to Club Salsa at all? Went once and it was closed - went another time and they had rock music on so got pissed off and haven't been back yet though did speak to the DJ about my husband making a guest DJ appearance so will keep youposted if you're interested. Do you think it's worthwhile opening up a Colombian salsa club night in Canbridge or are there tooo many other salsa nights? We are looking for another venue to open up a club night. Any ideas? You dance salsa?

Drags, Just read your details.. Like me you've been married 6 years and we have a 5 year old son!!

Drags says on Jul 19, 2006, 04:20:

Nice one larumberainglesa!!! Where's your husband from then? We did go to Club Salsa once and enjoyed it. I used to know the DJ there. We used to run a few Salsa classes locally too. My wife (as you can imagine) is fanatical about Salsa and has taught me a few moves over the years.

Another Salsa club in Cambridge would be great! You could make a killing if you did it well. There are loads of classes & courses that go on, not to mention the University run events for students. I will have a think and let you know about possible venues, shouldn't be a problem though.

Let me know if your husband does the guest DJ thing at Club Salsa.
Cheers.

Drags - Great! So you still think there's room for one more club? We have all the gear (lights, decks, speakers, projector, T-shirts, DVD's) but have cancelled all parties in Essex for now. We need to go to a larger city. Actually we are doing a wedding in August at The University Arms! I know Cambridge quite well as I lived there from 1984-1986 and it's only about an hour to get there from ours. Don't know many venues though. Vishal used to DJ at the Catholic Hall - would that be a good place? Help me out then free entry at the club forever!! My husband is from the Pacific coast. I can safely say that he is one of the best dancers you could ever hope to see. He really is good and has excellent music. People love his classes.

Drags says on Jul 19, 2006, 06:23:

DJ Vishal.... ....is the geezer I used to know at the Salsa Club too! Does he still run it?

I will do my best to think of somewhere. Don't know what the Catholic Church venue is like or why Vishal stopped DJ'ing there?? One idea I always thought was good was running a club from within a posh hotel. A kind of once or twice a month Salsa club night. People pay for a meal early on about 7pm, then the DJ starts about 9pm kicking off with a Salsa Demo, then a lesson, then freestyle until the end. Hotles have the facilities to deal with this kind of event but don't know if it would be worth doing it (moneywise) or how much of a cut they would want. If you have the equipment you could run it easy and probably in more than one location.

Anyway, will let you know about venues once I have spoken to a few people.
