DAS Medellin Problems

I would like to say that up until recently I have had no problems with DAS. Please be warned. Stay away from the agent if possible named Fanny.

I have been to DAS twice in the last two months and each time she has tried to imply that I was illegal, which I was not.

The woman is rude and barks her low class Spanish at a rapid pace so God help you if you don't understand her ramblings. Try to deal with Miriam or the other agents as they will treat you with repect. Make sure you know how many days you have been in Colombia if you do get Fanny and don't be afraid to verify what she tells you(if you can understand her) with another agent. Even simple tasks such as counting months from arrival or typing the correct nationality on your cedula seems to be beyond her talents.

Shane I recommend that you not post this type of thing because you could get yourself in big trouble.

I don't know the fat (why the bad immigration police-woman has always to be fat?). Sandra at extranjeria is helpful and kind.

Fat Fanny I had no problem with Fat Fanny though when it was my turn after waiting for 2 hours she decided to take a 2 hour lunch and told me to come back.

Keep in mind that DAS office in Medellin is not suitable for what they are using it for, and there are not enough DAS officials to handle the work load. The office is way too small and so crowded that DAS workers can't walk our of thier office. You have to literally fight to get your turn. Its a stressful situation for them but still much easier than dealing with US immigration.

Stay away from "FUNNY" Believe me, I have had more than one run-in with this woman in the past year or so.

Last summer, I had over-stayed my tourist visa, and it was an honest mistake...I got stuck with Funny when I went to DAS, and she wanted to make about $350,000 pesos on me for my mistake. She told me to "only deal with her" when i came back to pay the fine, and was quite rude.

However, when I went back and spoke with the "jefe"/boss woman who was in charge at that time, since it was an honest mistake and I was studying, etc..she waived the fee and let me go. Had I gone back to deal with "funny" I would have paid a fine DIRECTLY to her pocket.

Please do not deal with this corrupt individual if you can help it. She is completely abusing her position and taking advantage of as many foreigners as she can. You have to stand up for yourself, and not take any crap from her, which she most certainly will try and dish out.

My best advice: If she does/demands something that sounds fishy/unreasonable, tell her that you want to clear it with the "Jefe" of the office, to get a second opinion. If she is up to "no good" this should get her to back down.

Good luck everyone, and stay away from the "Funny" business!
