DAS criminal record: 2 types?

What a hectic day for my poor wife. She is, as I type, in line at the DAS to get her "pasado judicial". And she finds out at the DAS that there are two types. One normal one , and the other for people to travel out of the country. So you could see why we were confused. Called Dra. Consuelos office, and they said that we just needed to bring the normal one. And Utopiacowboy says that it doesn't need to be translated into English nor do anything else. So we don't need to submit an English copy of the Marriage Cert, her birth Cert., etc?

Pasado Judicial Hi JT;
Basically the difference between the two police certificates is that one has up to 5 pages to renew each year. If she needs one to apply for a visa she needs the "travelling outside the country" one. Utopiacowboy is right, it does not need to be translated.

I'm just finnishing the process. My wife had her interview today and had the medical exams last week. She had a "Certificado Judicial" that was just a small green booklet looking thing. The Embassy works with English and Spanish documents so translations are not needed. I would recommend translations for after you're in the states. I had my wifes, stepdaughters birth certificates and our marriage certificate translated in the states and notarized. I've been able to use that for work related paperwork and had no problems.

God Bless America!

For K1 (and similar) you need the one for traveling outside the country.

My understanding is that "the one for traveling outside the country" is synonymous with "multiple departmento/jurisdictions" - which means somone only need the one DAS if they've lived in multiple locations since age 18.

NO you need the normal one with "validez nacional" I just went through a K1 (approved in july 17th). She just needs to get the one with "validez nacional", which is the average one and she can get it in her local DAS. I am 100% percent sure of what I am saying.

The one to get out of the country is just needed if you are going to spain or ecuador, is valid for a shorter amount of time (Like a couple months), and is different from the one with "validez nacional".

We looked at many of the DAS that we and others had - and none said "multiple departmentos" or "good for int'l travel" or anything like that... they all looked identical.

Just be sure you obtain the one that is for national - even though in our experience it won't say such - IF the applicant has lived in multiple departmentos since age 18. If the applicant has only lived in a single location, then any DAS will suffice.
