Crossing the Venezuelan border by bus

I am looking to get from Medellin to Merida, Venezuela and am curious if a bus can safely get me there. Anyone know what the scene at the Cucuta border is like. I am an experienced and confident traveler with near fluent, yet accented spanish, but definitely stand out as a gringo. Suggestions??? Hours of travel and cost??

Cucuta Take a bus to Bucaramanga at the Caribe Bus Station, it takes about 9 hours to get there and then get another one to Cucuta.
Cucuta is a midsized city, hot, it's ok in terms of safety just have the usual precautions.
