Cost of University education in Colombia?

I was talking to a few people in Cali. I was surprised when they told me that a University education is very expensive in Colombia at a decent university. Is this true? I think she mentioned something like 2,500,000 pesos per semester or maybe that was per year? Just how do the majority of the locals afford to send their kids to college? In many countries I have been to the cost of a university education is not too bad.

I assume no but do they have student loan programs there in Colombia? Does anyone know the exact cost of a University education at a well respected university? Just curious. Thanks.

It depends I depends which University you want to study in, A private one per semester could be from 1.500.000 (600 US) to more than 6.000.000 (2.200 Us) like U de los Andes in Bogota.

There are many public universities like La National or departamental ones, like U de Antioquia, U de Caldas, UTP etc, that charge you depending on your economical situation so you can either pay a very low tuiton or very high, I know people that pays like 150.000 (70 US) per semester, but many others pay much more than that, these public universites are quite good, and it is more difficult to get a place there than in a private.

I think the % of people that go to university in Colombia is + or - 20%. There is also many people that go to technical school like SENA. But most people either can't afford a private one, or is not good enough to get a place in the public one.

The government has a project that consists on the creation of 400.000 more places in Universities in this 4 years , I am not sure how is that going.

Cali I think the Universidad del Valle is the best, that is public, but there are some good private ones check ICESI, or Universidad Javeriana.
I don't know about Universidad Santiago de Cali, it may be good as well.
