Cost for bilingual schools

We are considering moving to Colombia for a year. Any idea what a bilingual International school would cost? Thanks!

Not sure - they tend to be very expensive, could be 400, 500, 600 US dollars a month per kid, perhaps more. But don't have the exact prices.

http://www.colegioscolombia.com/ -- this may be a good start, looks like you have to sign up to see the pricing information.

There is also one or more annual guides (rankings, costs) put out by El Tiempo or Semana, maybe someone else has a link to the guide or knows where you can purchase a print edition.

The quality of thebilingual schools is NOT related to the matriculation fees. There are many "bilingual" schools that are no more than Engluish intensvive. I think that the prices would be available through a phone call. I can recomend Colegio Bilingual Richmond, Abraham Lincoln and the British School all in Bogota. In Cali Las Cañaverales is a good option.

What city are you looking for a school in? I know here in Bucaramanga you can find bilingual schools for about 350,000 COP a month that offer a decent education.

The school I taught at last year was 110,000 pesos a month(Pamplona Norte de Santader). This year I teach at a school that cost around 300,000 pesos (Cucuta). The cheaper school has a higher level of English then the more expensive. Seventh graders and up can hold a good conversation with you. In the more expensive school, I can barely get the tenth graders to talk.

Thanks for the response! Cali is where we're thinking. My kids speak English and some Spanish so a bilingual school would be great.

Bilingual schools in Cali include Colegio Bolivar (US -style), Colegio Britanico with IB (International baccalaureate exam) (my favorite), Colegio Jefferson, Colegio Bennet. All these are traditional, well-established fully bilingual schools. (We have some ex-alumni here in PBH as a wittness to the fact that you DO learn English in these schools). There are a couple newer schools too, like Diana Oese, but the one Bill Turley mentioned I 'm not familiar with. (I googled it and found it! It's Colegio Internacional Los Canaverales: http://www.colcanaverales.edu.co/

As far as the costs, I believe Colegios Jefferson and Bennet are more affordable, while Bolivar and Britanico are very expensive.

Don't forget many schools charge a "bono" which is a one time payment as if you were joining a club. Some schools have a bono as high as 30,000,000 pesos.
